You need to be more specific about locations and dates before anyone can help you. However, if they are anything like my Reid, Reed and Read ancestors in the Border regions (England/Scotland) then you may also have to accept that some differences are just spelling variants used by those writing up registers so there will be a mix of spellings in one family.
Thank you, for the reply! I can accept the spelling variations, IF, it is for the same family. I have been lead in the wrong direction, by people who think the name is just another variant!!

I am hoping to eventually, get to my ancestors of Ireland, England, Scotland and as far back as I can go. I am having a tough time getting past the roadblock in Ontario, Canada.

If you or anybody reading this would like to continue? I do appreciate the input! Thank you

Rick
Rather than trying to sort them into name groups why don't you make a post about your brick wall ancestor on the line. Someone might recognise them or be able to give you some advice on how to get beyond Ontario.

Have you taken a DNA test? That would also help you to narrow down where you should be looking.
Hi Lynda, I am too a Reid from Madoc and Marmora I can trace the Reids back to 1844 at least. But there is a kink in my tree because George Henry Reid born July of 1844 is said to have been adopted. Im really looking for info on Daniel and Mary Green-Reid said to have come from Ireland before or close to when this George was born. Im stumped

Rick,

Lynda Crackett is right.  My sister and I have ben chasing this situation for the last year.  In 1670 to about 1760 people settled in Vermont used Lake Champagne for travel, both east and west, and north and south.  It just depended on who had control of it at the time, (French, English, Indians, or locals) plus the Indians used it for bot fishing and fighting.

Put your roadblock up for us to see and in our investigation in trying to figure out our roadblock, we may run across something to help you and others that are looking for the same answer.

Have fun, Richard Reed 9427

Have you had any contact with John D. Reid?  He might have some useful insights.  Here is his website.
