Is there a convention for the year in a ship voyage category?

I have been using "Ship_Name Year_of_Arrival" (e.g. Agincourt 1850) when naming categories for immigrant ship voyages. Recently I have found some categories with grouped voyages for a specific ship with the note "Voyages are dated from the Year they departed not the Year they arrive at their destination, If not in the same year". Should I have been using this convention?

The convention is spelled out in A guide to categories for emigrant-immigrant ships, but the short version is that the category that people's profiles should be linked to would be in the format Shipname, sailed Month ##, year. That category should then be linked up to a category in the format ####s Sailings, and to a category in the format Shipname (####), with the year of launch in brackets.

So the categories for your example would be:

[ [ Agincourt, sailed Month ##, year ] ]

[ [ 1850s Sailings ] ]

[ [ Agincourt (####) ] ]

There is a small snag with the convention.  Ships are filed under 'Ship Name (year)' so that we can distinguish between several ships of the same name.  Your example for Agincourt (####) would lead to a muddle.  For example, in the case of SS Potsdam (1908), which sailed in 1912, should the category be called SS Potsdam (1912), or SS Potsdam (1908) (1912) or what?  I think your system needs a rethink.  As a footnote I think the year should be in ISO form, i.e., YYYY-MM-DD, so that the sailings will automatically be sorted in chronological order.  What about it?
The category for the ship would be:

That would link upwards to at least two other categories, using the syntax:

Then, the category for the 1912 sailing would be:

which would of course link upward to:

As for dates, I also prefer that form, although I was not aware that it was an ISO standard. It would sort the sailings nicely, though. We'll have to put it to a vote.
