Which file to download from FamilyTreeDNA?

Looking to import my FTDNA results to WikiTree, don't know which file to choose!

There are 2 versions, "Build 36" or "Build 37".

There are 3 files in each of the above: "Autosomal Raw Data", "X Chromosome Raw Data" and "Raw Data Concatenated"

Each file comes as GZIP and CSV.

Which is the appropriate file(s) to bring into WikiTree?

Somewhat bewildered.... Joseph

Hello Joseph

You don't need to bring additional dna files into WikiTree, you have added your DNA info on to your profile page and that links to ftDNA now.  I see you also have Ancestry DNA and GEDMatch linked so I don't think you need to link anything else.

The files from ftDNA are your raw data files, you might need them to upload to other matching or dna info sites in the future.

WikiTree has a DNA Project that you might be interested in joining, they could help further your knowledge of dna and how it can be used for genealogical purposes.

Joseph, None of these files are brought into Wikitree.

I believe it is the 37 build "Raw Data Concatenated"  This is a zip file. Download this from FTDNA . Make sure you save it to your computer and write down the name of the file.  Do NOT unzip the file.

You should then register with gedmatch.com. It is free to do so.  They will send you an acknowledgement email for confirmation.  Once you get that, log in to Gedmatch.  On the right side of the screen, you will see 'File uploads'.  Click on the link for 'Generic Upload Fast'.  That will then give you a screen with links to detailed instructions on how to upload your information.

Once you have uploaded to gedmatch you will be given an identifying kit number.  What you want to enter into Wikitree is just the FTDNA kit number and the gedmatch id.  No dna files are actually uploaded to Wikitree.

Use Build 36 concatenated.

The GEDmatch instructions for Family Finder uploads says,

"Log in to your FTDNA account in another browser window or tab... You should see a page similar to the illustration below ...

There are several download options ...

You will need to select the Build 36 Raw Data Concatenated file to download from the options offered on FTDNA's download page the option is in the bottom right corner."
