Are there any records of BMDs in NZ BEFORE 1840? Where are they kept? [closed]

I have the obituary of a English born man who came out to New Zealand in 1824 with his wife. He was a Reverend and they were probably missionaries, to try and convert the (supposedly savage) Maoris. They did have children.

But if those children were born in NZ BEFORE the year of 1840 (when NZ became a Dominion), when all official records began, where would those records be kept?

Where and how could I find those records?

Does anyone know if such records are currently online?

Thank you.

For New Zealand before 1848, your best source are church records.  You can learn about what is available online and offline here:
