Confusing baptismal records in Yorkshire - need some opinions!

Are these baptismal records the same Thomas Lapish or a different one?

I first have this baptismal record. Parents Joseph Lapish and Rebecca.
- Baptised September 19th, 1806 in Keighley, Yorkshire. (Noted as Independant/Congregational.)
- Birthdate noted as July 4th, 1806.

I then have this second baptismal record for a Thomas Lapish, parents Joseph Lapish and Rebecca.
- Baptismal date noted as March 12th, 1815 in Keighley, Yorkshire, England (No church is noted this time.)
- No birthdate noted.

Is it possible these are the same person and perhaps the parents switched to a different church and had the kids re-baptised? Or am I potentially looking at a separate Joseph+Rebecca in the same place (I did not see another Joseph Lapish marrying another Rebecca - there were other Joseph Lapishes, but they had wives with different names.)

Note: I have sources attached to all current potential siblings for this Thomas, as well as his parents, if you need more information.

You should also consider whether the first Thomas died young and the parents named a subsequent child Thomas as well.  This happened more often then that it does today.   I have seen it dozens of times in the nineteenth century and earlier.

Consider examining the same parish records for a death/burial record for a Thomas during the interim period.

Yep - I considered that, as well! I did a quick search on Familysearch for a Thomas Lapish that was born around 1806, but did not see any death records noted that would have been early enough.

I'm assuming I'll have to do some more searching elsewhere to see if there is a death record.

I'm not yet certain if I am related to this family or not, but I have a brick wall ancestor - Thomas J. Lapish - that I have yet to be able to find his family in England (he immigrated to Canada.) This family is promising due to the fact of the father being named Joseph, as I believe my Thomas' middle name was likely Joseph. (My Thomas' gravestone in Canada notes his birthdate as April 1809, though, so not sure if it may even be possible that either of these Thomases are him.)
My father was named after his deceased brother in 1912. I found that very creepy at first.

Well, there it is.
Awesome - thank you!

Where was this information, by the way? I want to be sure to source it properly.

I'll have toa dd a separate profile for the 2nd Thomas.
I mean - which database in Ancestry was it in? I checked Ancestry myself, but I sometimes have an issue drilling down to the correct area.
Its indexed as Thomas Smith   (Keighley parish register; look in card index  under West Yorkshire, Church of England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials. 1512-1812, Its image 12 in the 1806 section
The indexing of the West Yorkshire registers is so terrible I don't bother looking.

Another hazard is that they mixed up some of the parishes, so the register you're looking at doesn't always actually belong to the parish stated.

The best hope is that FMP will do them again.
And of course they don't really go back to 1512.  The "1512" register is 1572 mistranscribed.  And that obvious error got into the main title of the database without anybody at Ancestry noticing.
Thank you very much!

Sounds like you have experience with the frustrations of this index! Heh.

No wonder I couldn't find the death record if it was indexed under "Smith"!

I wish the transcription of the later baptism listd the actual birthdate. I noticed a few others from this couple where it was only the baptism date listed.

Now if I can only find some descendants of this couple to see if perhaps my ancestor (Thomas J. Lapish) is perhaps this 2nd Thomas Lapish that was named after his dead brother.
