What happened to John and Mary Weston (Bodman) circa 1814 ?

I am trying to find out what happened to a John Weston and his wife Mary (born Bodman) in the years circa 1814-15. They were married at Monkton Farleigh, east of Bath, in 1812, and their son Augustus Weston was baptised there in 1813. But then the parents vanish and the son was adopted by his Bodman grandmother. Why? What tragedy befell the parents?  Is there any record of their respective deaths in Bath/Somerset ? I would be most grateful if any Weston family historians could help with this puzzle.

A possible clue to find out more about John. An Ann Weston was a witness at his marriage:

Dear Doug

This is a very good point. Yes, there was an Ann Weston as witness to the marriage of 1812. Perhaps she was John's sister, or even his mother?  It has always struck me as rather odd that there was no Bodman witness to this marriage. Do you think there are any Weston family sleuths out there who might be able to pinpoint 'my' John Weston by linking him to Ann Weston?  My family research has been concentrated in North Wiltshire and I have searched all the Wiltshire parish registers.  But I have NOT had an opportunity to search the Somerset parish registers. Monkton Farleigh adjoins Somerset. Are there any Weston researchers who could check the records for Bath and the surrounding parishes?

Hi John,

Would you be interested in adding the Weston family you are studying onto the Weston Name Study page (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Weston_Name_Study)?  You could add the earliest member of the family that you've traced and give details of the issue that you're currently working on.

Regards,

Chris.

Dear Keith. How nice to hear from you. I clicked on the attachment you posted, but I couldn't open it without a login for Ancestry.Com (which I don't have). Do you think you could email it to me? (You still have my email address, I hope - it hasn't changed.)  I am very intrigued by the fact that you even have a birth date (of 1788) for John Weston.  I am very keen to know more... All best, Charles
