Seeking family of John (Jean Baptiste) Ross and Marguerite (Maggie) Metivier

Question

Hey!

I have a bit of a puzzle here and I'm hoping someone can help me solve it. I'm looking for the family of Georgianna Ross. I have her mother, Marguerite "Maggie" Metivier thanks to my grandmother's book and information I found on FamilySearch. Then there's her dad, John Ross. or Jean Baptiste Ross. Several places say he was born in Germany. Georgianna's info says he was born in Canada.

 My grandmother's book also listed a John Ross before John Ross as well. I'm thinking she meant "Jean Baptiste". I'm not sure. On FamilySearch, I have five sources for Maggie and two for John. John's parents aren't listed. Other places say his parents were Ross and some lady named Cyr. That's not the case in the book I have. It goes:

Georgianna Ross -> John Ross + Maggie Metivier -> John and Matilda Ross (Nee Blanchard).

It's a bit confusing as Ross is a very common name. All I have to go on is what I have on Georgianna's profile, Her Husband's and her mom's. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The 1880 US Census shows her father as born in Canada and his father, also named John Ross was born in Canada also.

I guess I could use math to determine when John was born. This would mean he was born in 1853. Is there anything else? Good find. Thanks!

No I don't, sadly. I found a Jean Baptiste Ross who was born July 17, 1847 in St Colomban de Sherbrooke P.Q. and was married to a Margaret Metivier. His parents were Jean Baptiste Ross and Adele Cyr.  One problem with that. Those are not the names in the book I was talking about. This was on Myheritage and I can't contact the guy who made it for verification. I don't think it's the same guy.

According to the marriage entry in BMS 2000 (http://www.bms2000.org/record/marriage/4398363), Jean Ross, son of Jean Baptiste Ross, and Marguerite Metivier, daughter of Antoine Metivier, married 14 August 1869 at St-Martin-de-Tours parish in Somersworth, New Hampshire.  I'm not sure why they didn't note the names of the mothers.  That still doesn't quite answer the question of exact origins, but hopefully it will be another angle you can use to help solve the puzzle.

Huh. For some reason I can't see the card as I am a visitor. Good info. Interesting angle. I think I saw that wedding date and incorrectly put it in on Ancestry thinking it was the couple I was looking for. It isn't.

BMS 2000 is a fee based site-wanted to include the link in case you had a subscription or wanted to check out the particular entry the next time you are at a genealogy library (and it's good in general to cite specific sources).  I wish you luck in your search.

Thanks. Looks like I am gonna need it. I want to add John Ross's profile here. But, it may have to be bare bones. Name, estimated date of birth and a few sources from Familysearch.

Eh, I'll make it anyway. I've seen more bare bones profiles than that here.

Ahh, Adele Cyr. I looked her up on Ancestry and saw the dozens of kids. Can't make sense of her bio right now as the source was a combination of a ton of trees. I hope we can weed out fact from fiction with her before I add her.
