Gedcom duplicates

Question

Recently I added a gedcom for one branch of my family.  Every person was duplicated!  I am merging them individually - a lengthy process but not entirely useless, since I can review family that I have not seen since creating the file (10 years?).

 

Is this duplication a fault of my GED export (PAF) or have I missed some WikiTree instruction?

Are you positive they were not in the GEDCOM? I have never seen that happen that it created duplicates that werent in the GEDCOM, but I know a LOT of people have TONS of duplicates in their GEDCOM's.

The duplicates were in the GEDCOM and the PAF data.
I don't know how the duplication occurred.  Perhaps a "save" without a "replace".  Must check the PAF data file before making a GEDCOM.

Certainly I knew that I had almost the whole of my tree duplicated in my PAF gedcom, and until I realised this I had added some info to one version and some to the other - by using the merge on Wikitree you can then ensure that the merged version gets both sets of information.  It is a slow process but worth it.  I couldn't figure out another way of doing it.

Have you imported gedcoms from other people into your PAF?  That is how it happened with my tree.  PAF askes you which one you want to use if the relative is already there but it leaves both in your tree with different numbers.

Just one of my own files duplicated.  Merging the two sets is lengthy, since I compare the two profiles and then merge, rather than merging directly.  I am using the "earliest birth date" feature of the Watchlist to avoid the problem of unmerged parents holding up a merge.
