Henry James Hubert King (19 Nov 1873 Boston U.S.A. - 1952 Cheltenham England) married Mary Susan Schultz in 1902 (Stroud reg., district England.

Mary Susan was born 31 Dec 1871 and died aged 70 Dec. Q 1942 Stroud reg., district England .

I can't find any record for her birth or in fact anything about her prior to her marriage. Was she perhaps a widow when she married Henry James Hubert King ?

This is one of the toughest nuts to crack that I have come across. Any help much appreciated

Dear Bill,

This looks like the index to the marriage record you mention.

"England and Wales Marriage Registration Index, 1837-2005," database, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:263G-J7K : 13 December 2014), Mary Susan Schultz, 1902; from “England & Wales Marriages, 1837-2005,” database, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : 2012); citing 1902, quarter 4, vol. 6A, p. 785, Stroud, Gloucestershire, England, General Register Office, Southport, England.

Have you been able to view a copy of the entry?  Who are Mary Ann Burford and James Vick?  Why do you suspect Mary Susan may have been married previously?  Is it because she would be age 31 at this marriage? Could she have been involved in business, maybe a family business, and therefore delayed her marriage?

Just trying to throw some ideas out there.  Any member in Stroud, Gloucestershire able to help? Good luck with your search. -NGP

1911 henry james hubert is with a cousin and no sign of Mary. But HSJ and wife Mary S enter UK in 1924 from NY.

But Mary really is elusive. Can't find any reference to her anywhere, except that crossing. No marriages to Schulz or births in that area. Could she have been born in the US?

Address throughout married life was Newmarket Court, Nailsworth.

Good luck.
