Hello all- I am in need of some help- I just found this obituary in relation to one of my ancestors. It says that he had a sister Mrs. Lanning of Clifton Springs NY- I have been pulling out my hair to find this person.

Any Ideas on were to start or how to approach this?

Thanks

Daughter Alice was born in New York about 1873. Mary was born in Ireland about 1872. Search immigration records for 1872-1873. Families usually traveled together. Search immigration of Dowling and Lanning born between 1830 and 1840 maybe.

You might search the 1910 census for Lannings in the area of Clifton Springs, New York to start. That might give you potential names for the sister and her husband to further research in earlier census records or possibly marriage records - and additional newspaper articles.

There is an interesting site (free) which has quite a number of the New York State newspapers.  You might find some clues at www.fultonhistory.com.
