sources other than Ancestry for father Darby/son Darby (b 1716, m Hannah)?

The sourced profile for Darby McCarty, born about 1716, states that Timothy is not his father. But looking at the information on Timothy's profile, it seems plausible that he might be (especially with attached profile for his father being Darby). However, nothing on Timothy's profile or his father's offers any support for the information on their profiles (if the Ancestry links have sources, I can't access them). Anyone have anything to support Timothy McCarty of Ireland born 1670 being the son of Darby (b 1643) & father of Darby (b 1716)?

Thanks!

The name Timothy McCarty, as the father of Darby McCarty, comes from The book Shenandoah Valley Pioneers and Their Descendants by T. K. Cartmell.  On Page 126 the book says Timothy McCarty was a chain carrier or marker for a land survey. This was enough for one researcher to wonder if Timothy could be the father of Darby McCarty. He shared this idea with other researchers and somewhere down the line someone put it in their tree. Once this information made it online it has been copied over and over.

Bruce A. Johnson said on GenForum “I was the original source of the information giving Darby's father's name as Timothy, and his father's name as Darby. I have since found out that that information was a totally unproved rumour in my family. Please disregard that information”.  In defense of Bruce’s family this rumor had been around for sometime before Bruce put it online and they were not the only family to believe it.
