Hi Christopher and Welcome to Wikitree,

The best place to start would probably be with Verda Mae (Kirk) Havens, who died in 2008, and set up a profile for her, adding whatever information you have.  Then go to free websites like FamilySearch.org and FindAGrave.com and see what else you can find out and add that info to her profile.  Then added her parents, Rose Mae Gilbert and Ernest L. Kirk and do the same for them.  Just build backwards one person at a time, adding birth, death and marriage info, census information, names of children, etc. at each level.  If you need help, you have already found the G2G forum, so just ask here.

In addition to what Vic said, you may want to become a "full WikiTree member" by finishing the process of filling out your tags and clicking on Volunteer button as explained in the initial email from Derek. Once you do that you will be confirmed by one of our friendly greeters!!

Here's how to do the Tags: 

You may want to add some tags on your page indicating a family name for one tag and a specific location like a country, state etc you are interested in, for another tag and then add other surnames or locations as tags as desired. That way you will be connected to others with the same interest.

Click on http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Following to add or remove tags. Be sure to add comments explaining why you're following the tags. Those appear on your profile too.
