I'm stuck with this chap and with the Surname Moon I'd have thought there would have been good chance of making a connection - perhaps to the Kent branch of the Moons, but I'm having to declare myself stuck on this one and hope someone else might have a clue for me.
I have the name John Thomas Moon from the marriage certificate of this daughter, Sarah. It just gives his name and I don't even have an occupation to go on. Marriage is in 1844 and he is not listed as deceased, so I presume he's still in the land of the living at that point, although his wife is listed as a widow in 1851. His wife is originally from Sheffield. A cousin thinks her original name might be Cartwright and she certainly has some Cartwright children with her in 1841 and another Cartwright visitor in 1851, but I haven't had much luck with them either. I assumed they were related somehow - possibly children from a previous marriage? 1851 did list Ann as a widow of a Tool Maker (Annuitant), so a tiny clue there.
I found a death for a John Thomas Moon in the period I've narrowed it down to, but it's in Plymouth and the wife is in Nottinghamshire. Would that have been a very itinerant profession?
I've not been able to satisfactorily identify him in the 1841 census, but since I don't know where he might be, as he's not with the rest of the family, that's not a total surprise!
Any help on this one gratefully received! I am expecting the results of an Ancestry DNA test in a couple of months, so that might help if there are any English potential Moon descended cousins out there!
