We are trying to track down information on my grandfather's family. He was born Jessie Willard Morgan in 1918 in Americus, Georgia. His parents were William Henry Morgan and Leila Morgan, unknown maiden name. Leila died in Oct 1918. William gave their kids away. Leila's obituary still did not give a maiden name.
My grandfather was adopted by William C. and Effie M.(Graham) McArthur. He was renamed Wilbert McArthur and attended school in Americus. William McArthur died in 1922. Effie was still living in Americus in 1930. My grandfather left Americus in 1934-35, lied about his age and joined the Navy. After being discharged he changed his name to Robert Dean.
We have found family members of his brothers, Henry Morgan and Marvin Morgan (Marvin's name was changed to Marvin Elza), but they don't know any more information than we do.
His sister Winifred Morgan was adopted by the Fuller Stead family of Cordelle. In 1930 they were living in Atlanta. Mr. Stead was a druggist in Cordelle. After 1930 we can not find any more info on Winifred. Any and all help would be appreciated.
