Placing an x space before a first name

Someone from Wikitree in the past (sorry!) edited a profile of an infant death by placing an "x" and space before the first name. When I asked him why, he said it was policy as it assisted in the cleaning up of duplicate profiles.

Is it policy?

I've never heard of such a thing anywhere!

No. Unless the x was on the "wee ones" birth or death certificate it doesn't belong in the name fields

I'm not seeing anything regarding that.. unless I'm just not seeing it. Maybe ask him where he saw that policy?

Unfortunately I cannot find the earlier correspondence. I suspect it might be a policy for another genealogy product.

This appears to be an example of a Personal Coding System, as discussed on the Help: Name Fields page, which states that they are not appropriate on WikiTree.
