Mr and Mrs. John Hummel, Golden, CO

Question

I hope I have this in the right category.  

In honesty, I don't know if this is a living person; I am trying to discern who this person is and how he knew my grandparents.

In 1972 Mr. and Mrs. John Hummel were living in Golden, CO.  They sent my grandparents, life-long residents of NJ, a Christmas card from an address on Braun Dr. in Golden, CO.  I still have the envelope, but I don't have the card, unfortunately.

My grandmother was a lifelong resident of NJ and she didn't leave the state as far as I know.  She may have gone to PA to visit her husband once in a while when he worked there.during the 1950s.  It is also possible that this is how my grandpa met the Hummels.

My grandpa served in the military and I believe he served in the 69th Infantry.  He also could have met Mr. Hummel through that.  

Finally, I don't know my grandparents cousins.  I know that my grandfather's parents were Metzner and Sauer, both of Germany.  I know they both came to the US in the 1880s but I know nothing of their families.  Mr. Hummel or his wife could definitely be one of my grandpa's cousins.  My grandmother was a Wagner and a Roth.  Her dad emigrated from Germany while her mom' was NJ born, from parents who emigrated from Germany.

If this couple was friends with my grandparents, then all involved are deceased and hopefully descendants are out there that will recognize the address.

I have long been wanting to solve this mystery; this could potentially mean more relatives, but more importantly it could be a breakthrough to learning more about my great-grandparents families.  Both my parents are deceased so they can't help.

I deeply appreciate any help for this.

HILDA SCHAAF was born on April 25, 1902, in Neckarau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, her father, (JOHANN), was 24, and her mother, ANNA SCHERER, was 26. She had one daughter with JOHN HUMMEL. She died on March 22, 1990, in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, at the age of 87.

(1930 census Hilda was single. 1940 she was married to John)

Thank you all so very much for your help.  It was invaluable in helping me solve this mystery.  It looks like John Hummel and Hilda Schaaf are connected to the side of aunt, the wife of my mom's twin brother.

Hilda Schaaf traveled twice to the US, at the least.  The first time was 1922, with Philip Zeilfelder.  I believe he was a brother of my aunt's father.  Hilda and Philip both had the same contact:  an uncle named Philip Schinnagel.

Thus, Hilda is my ancestral relative by marriage.

I wanted to update this.  I don't remember if her maiden name was Schaaf, but Hilda was the aunt of my aunt Bette.  I think Hilda was a sibling of my aunt Bette's dad.  Thanks so much for your input!
