Are you Australian or have Australian family connections? The  Australia Project always needs people to help add to and improve the quality of Australian information on WIkiTree. There are also many sub-projects (eg convicts, cemeteries, Prime ministers, etc). If you haven't already joined, just answer this question below so we connect you to our project.

Love this Paul and timely too considering the Australia Project LiveCast this Weekend! :-) Mags

I'm Australian born. My direct Paternal Walker line hasn't been in Australia very long. My Grandfather Ivor Walker was born in 1930 in Cheltenham England and came to Australia via a army transfer some time in the late '40's early 50's. My maternal line (Rowland ) have been in Australia a lot longer with my 4X Grandfather William Rowland entering Australia from England sometime in the early 1850's as an immigrant/settler. On my mother's direct maternal line My 4X Great Grandmother is Unknown and is widely rumoured and speculated to be possibly a full blood Aboriginal.
I look forward to contributing my Australian data. Its a slow process but I'll get there.
John
I am Australian and have been busy so far adding basic details of lots of my Australian family members but will then go back and go into more indepth profiles of those family members soon.  I would love to be part of the Australian project.
Hi, more than happy to assist in this project. My family came here as free settlers from the 1830's on.

Pamela
I have both convict and free settlers here in Australia, the earliest being born in Tasmania in 1836. I have no idea where or how her mother came to be there or where she came from. I have however nailed her father who is not listed on her baptism. I also have a great uncle who was sent to WA as a convict. Then a few pioneers, one who was on council for the first Melbourne Suburb (Fitzroy) and many others.

According to the National Archives of Australia there is a record of an Ivor Walker listed

Name: Ivor Walker

Born: 1930

Departed Southampton aboard the ship SS Asturias on 5th March 1952

Passenger No. 563 Berth No. 1228

Ship arrived Fremantle, Western Australia on 30 March 1952 then arrived

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 4th April 1952.

Age 21; Occupation Army; Address c/o Central Army Record, Albert Barracks, Melbourne, Victoria.

Hope this may be of help

Kind regards Ross Geissmann

I'm interested in doing what I can if you can find something for a relatively new WikiTree person to do.

Working to add all the profiles for my Aussie ancestors, so far haven't been able to connect to any existing tree branches, but that will come soon, hopefully.

Being Australian and having ancestors who came from the UK to pioneer here, I'm interested in this project.

I also have a particular interest in cemeteries, but will leave joining that group until I have my tree more completely up on WikiTree.

I'm just trying to get all my Aussies, both direct line and peripheral, on WikiTree with sources. There always seems to be something to do.

I am already part of the Australia and Anzacs project, but would like to 'officially' join the Convicts and Early Settlers project too. I've added that category to my profile in anticipation. I'd love the Convicts and Early Settlers badge if that is still available.

What I am currently doing.... gradually adding in all my extended Australian family and my relatives' extended families and connecting up to profiles already on WikiTree as I find the links. Also sourcing, merging duplicates, and opening up private profiles along the way. Somewhere down the track, I'd like to work more methodically on convicts and early settlers, but at the moment it's really just as a profile comes to my attention one way or another.

Happy to help out wherever else is needed!

Hi

I have been signed up to WikiTree for a while but due to work and then moving interstate I haven't participated much at all. Things are getting back into WikiTree and finding out what I can on WikiTree.

Happy to help wherever I can, while new to WikiTree, I have been doing my family tree for well over 25 years.

I am interested in my Australian connections, which are McAskill, Clark, Smith, and Berry but naturally there are other connections via marriage etc. These families predominantly settled in NSW having come to Australia from Scotland, Ireland, and England. Over many years the families have spread to other Australian states.

Kind regards

Robyn

Hello, I am particularly interested in confirming/shoring up my Australian roots. My tree has become rather complicated with Irish/English/Scottish relatives. I need to go back to my birth etc. and work from there. I have many Australian relatives not yet confirmed in my tree, would also be happy to help others with their research here in Aus.

Hi - I am descended from Oldfield (convict), Rawlings (convict), Rumble (free settlers), Bellamy/Bentley (unknown) and Tindale  (convict), to name a few, and keen to grow the Aussie content on WikiTree. I've loaded my 4000-strong gedcom and added everyone ... now adding photos and getting other cousins involved to add photos to their various branches.

How do I join the Australian project?
by Roberta Muir G2G3 (3.4k points)
Hi Roberta, I think you have joined by answering the question. If you go to the Australia Project (see Projects on the Find menu), it has information about the different sub-projects. and categories you can add to your profile, and to your ancestors profiles. Also some neat templates for your convicts.
Thanks Gillian, great advice!

G'day Paul.  I'm a 7th generation Aussie with 8 great convict ancestors.  Every one of them improved their lifestyle what what they would have had if they had stayed in the England.  My wife has at least 6 convict ancetors, so our daughters have been born and raised under much conviction.  Would love to help in any way I can.  Regards, Ken.

Hello Paul, only a new member finding my way around.

My father heritage is English, his family moved to Australia when he was at the ripe old age of 1. I am from Mackay Queensland and mainly focus at present on my wife's side of the family from Mackay and Blackall area's. Roots back to England and Ireland, Wales. I have also located Austin's in my wife's heritage.

My Nephew  is also a member of Wikitree and is working on the Austin line, my Father and his Grand Father, following it back to England.

Would love to contribute where possible.

I'm Australian, with one convict and many early free settlers. My maternal grandfather was born in England, but is of Irish stock.

Being new to WikiTree, I'm still getting my lines up. Doing it one at a time is a slow process, especially when I nearly always follow related families back until I learn their country of origin. I love it when I can link into an existing branch. Along the way, I tidy up and source gedcom imports encountered, and adopt orphaned profiles.

Unfortunately, I've left a few unsourced files in my wake - between one creative session and the next. I'll get to them, though.

Loving my WikiTree experience.

O goody - a long list of Australian genealogists; is there someone here who could help find a family for Edward James Lance, an Australian killed in action in Anzac Cove. I don't usually  draw a blank, but this family has eluded me.

I'll admit it, I'm a foreign import, but made in England!

My Aussie born childrens' maternal side has various roots back to the UK through Buckley Tapping Pullen and Brewster, whilst on my side Rowley Reeves Haigh and of course France all preceeded my arrival here.

Theres a few arrived courtesy of her Majesty's cruising company, and a few made there own way.

They have found their way all wround Australlia from Omeo in the high country, to coastal and Inland Victoria, Leeton, Arnhemland, QLD, and even the Christian family of Norfolk island.

I'm interested in the Australia and the Convicts and Early Settlers projects. I am 5th generation Australian and have already added all my known Australian ancestors - other than some brick walls and have added many of their decedents too. I am also adding all non related Hawker convicts and early settlers as they are likely connected to my line somewhere.
