? 75 yrs ago = was your Dad there in Milne Bay ?

Good morning folks -

25th August 1942 – the Battle of Milne Bay was under weigh. Two weeks later, the war in the Pacific was turning. The Battle of the Coral Sea (May) had been waged, and the stepping stones were being reversed. The AWM has a new/revised web-site, where you can do much research, with many photos, now out of copyright.

Thanks John A,

My father was a bomber pilot in the RAAF, serving mostly in Papua/New Guinea but I just rechecked his service record and he joined 33 Squadron RAAF in November 1942 so wouldn't have been at Milne Bay.

My father was a member of the RAAF ground crew stationed in both Port Morsby and Milne Bay.  One of his old stories was that after one of the bombing raids they found a giant squid on the beach that had been killed by the bombing.
