WikiTree+ "Error Reports" are now "Suggestions"

Hi WikiTreers,

As some of you noticed, the "Error Report" links in the pull-down menus now say "Suggestions" instead.

The reports aren't different than they were yesterday. But thanks to Aleš's brilliance, hard work, and the way he collaborates with the community to improve his WikiTree+ reports, they're very different than they were last year. They have evolved quite a bit.

Originally, they mostly reported straightforward errors. Death date before birth date, a parent's death date before a child's birth date, etc. Now there is so much more, e.g. the comparisons with Find-A-Grave and WikiData profiles. A lot of what's in these reports now aren't errors. They're suggestions for things a Wiki Genealogist should look at.

Onward and upward, for the single family tree,

Chris

P.S. If this is all new to you, click the "Suggestions" link in the My WikiTree menu at the top of this page. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:WikiTree_Plus for more info.

That was a quick fix.  Thanks Aleš and  Chris you make it look so easy
Thanks for the quick fix Aleš and Chris.  You make it look so easy.

Sorry, but I can't agree with this ridiculous change to "Suggestions". Imagine reporting that you just corrected a "Suggestion 811"! There was no need nor real justification to change for a general wording that does not describe at all what we are doing as "Data doctors" on WikiTree. Let's face it, we are correcting errors, even if some don't seem to like the word. Is this the same strange thinking that led to the dropping of "DB_Errors" ? A "cat" is still a cat, even if some want to call it a "canary" or something....  S. L.

Thank you for changing the name to Suggestions. "Data base errors" annoyed me, and I ignored it. In fact, I am surprised it was even on the menu. I prefer to fix my own errors as I find them. Thanks again!
+1 Serge.  And that is all I am going to say on the matter :-)
Interesting how the sentiments here correspond with what is going in the US right now.
Of course, they do, we are them!

+1 Serge and I have nothing to do with US and glad I am in Europe.... The only thing that impress me from the US lately is Puddles Pity Party and his sadness

I understand he is sad....

Thanks for letting us know about the name change to "Suggestions".  I check my "Errors Report" on a regular basis at least once a week to make sure I do not add to the "Data Error Report" - oops "Suggestions Report" !

The various comments here have given me a bit of a laugh.  I have been working on the "Data Error Report" for Australia during the last week and hopefully have and still am sorting out and cleaning up various profiles - most have been orphaned. I have done so many it is ridiculous!

To those who don't like others correcting / making changes to the profiles they manage, then PLEASE check YOUR "Suggestions" each week and correct (if that is the correct word now)  what the "Suggestions Report" suggests is the remedy.

As mentioned above in "WikitTree Error Reports are now Suggestions", you will find "Suggestions" in the drop down menu under "My WikiTree".

When working on profiles:

PLEASE  add Sources, and Dates and  Places of birth, marriage & death.  If you don't know the exact date  give an estimate or if you don't know the  place at least give a country so others have a rough idea where to look.

PLEASE  remember when YOU  upload a Gedcom file, YOU need to go through each profile and clean it up and add sources and if possible a biography.

PLEASE NEVER remove everything from a profile and leave it blank. You would not believe the number of profiles that show nothing and I mean nothing.  Each should have at least:

==Biography==

==Sources==

<references />

Like many. many others I am commited to making WikiTree the best, so please don't judge me too harshly on my little rant!

Good luck and best wishes

Diane
Thank you for your awesome hard work making WikiTree the best it can be,  Diane. You are a rockstar! :-)

LOL. Magnus

I have not always been a fan of FAG , but I remembered an old first responders adage "if you are not part of the solution, do not become part of the problem", so I joined FAG just last week. My goal is to cross reference and connect those that are already there and request corrections of incorrect data. So I would suggest if your overall goal sounds similar that you become part of the solution and join FAG.

The way I get around my hatred for Find-a-grave is by incorporating that hatred into my password.  I really hate Find-a-grave, but it is what it is, and Billion Graves is worse.
Similar to my response of working with Find A Grave. It does get tiring making corrections, but I have had pretty good success and have met some fine people including cousins.

Sometimes it appears like there are profiles for everyone. My Parents and grandparents were there, but not a few of my relatives on the same stone. I had my parents and grandparents transferred to me. I created profiles for the other relatives. (I even had photos of the stone.)

I know you can get in trouble believing everything, but the the same is true of most profiles and many sources. I have seen so many conflicting dates! I wonder if they put down when it was recorded instead of the event happening. It is evident that baptist and birth are often confused as well as death and burial. When the same event is recorded in multiple places sometimes they give the local location instead of where it happened. I have seen errors on copies of certificates I have collected, with stamps and everything.
The different date thing makes you crazy, I have seen one date on the headstone and a different one on the death certificate. I have started entering the one from the headstone because Wiki can't deal with the conflict of differences, and simply add a note so that others with accurate data can see why there is a difference.
The problem with Find A Grave is they don't require people to turn your own relatives over to you. I gave up when I could not manage my one of my favorite aunts. I have now put 10 times as much info on wikitree instead :)
I personally don't want to manage all of the Memorials that could be considered my relatives.  As long as the data is correct, I'm good. I have other places I can use any time that would be required for that maintenance.  I am as they say getting a little "long in the tooth" so I am opposed to wasting time.
I've enjoyed working with the Find a Grave folks who were managing my relatives' memorials. I discovered that a new batch had been added thanks to the Error Report (when it was called that) and I spent a couple of weeks with the managers getting the facts corrected. They were all very nice to work with & offered to turn over the memorials to me, but I am not a member of Find a Grave (or of Wikipedia) and declined. I spend way too much time in WikiTree as it is. I'd never leave the computer if joined Find a Grave!

I have an issue with the "Surname" report, because it is not that.  It is what its title says "Suggestions in profiles with "surname" in name".  In my current case I get 3 or 4 listings with a surname matching mine, and 100 or so with a first or middle name matching my surname.  This is not at all useful.  At least my surname is not John or Jane.
