I cannot alter or merge a profile. [closed]

I found a profile Yelverton-91 which had no manager and contains incorrect material, notably dates which are out by half a century. I put my name forward to manage the profile, but find I cannot edit it as I have not asked enough questions to qualify to edit a pre-1500 profile. I tried to initiate a merge with the correct profile Yelverton-4 but again was unable to do this, and as the dates are so different it is not likely to be accepted as a merge. I wrote with all information to the manager of Yelverton-4 and Yelverton-8 which I think are also proposed to be merged. Yelverton -4 is project protected, but I vcannot locate a project or a project manager to write to.

Thanks Bruce for working on this profile.  Usually we suggest if you don't have the pre-1500 badge, to add some notes to the comments section, but as you are the only profile manager and person on the trusted list, that isn't going to help much.

Instead why don't you explain why you think the two profiles (Yelverton-91 and Yelverton-4 (8 has already been merged into 4) are the same, and why there is a mistake with the dates on Yelverton-91 on this G2G forum.  You could also list the sources you have used to come to that decision.  I've also added some extra tags and linked to the profile and that hopefully will help in getting other people to add some comments or sources.

PS - I don't know why you couldn't suggest a merge, I think that is still supposed to be available to anyone, and not restricted to just those who have the pre-1500 certification.

I'm not sure why you believe these profiles represent the same person. Beyond the name, which certainly isn't enough to warrant a merge, nothing about these two profiles matches. It isn't just the dates that are vastly different, they also have different wives.

There is a Rootsweb link on Yelverton-91's profile that shows a completely different line than that of Yelverton-4. Yelverton-91 certainly needs far more research before any merge is proposed.

Deb, I did find this source https://archive.org/stream/essaytowardstopo10blom#page/31/mode/1up which indicates that the first wife of Sir William Yelverton was Jane, daughter of Sir Oliver le Grosse.

It would be good to find other sources, but it suggests that the dates currently on Yelverton-91 are incorrect, and it is a match for Yelverton-4.

Indeed they are the same person.  The dates for Yelverton-91 were incorrect.  I researched and located information, which I added to Yelverton-91, and corrected the estimated dates.  I then proposed the merge.  It's ready to be completed.
