John B. Gilber, b: 1786, Montgomery County, Virginia; looking for his ancetors

Question

I've found several profiles that trace back to John B. Gilbert who married Sarah Tabor on 16 Apr 1816 in Tazewell County, Virginia.  Sarah Tabor's ancestors go back to the late 1500s, but I find no information on parents or other ancestors of John B. Gilbert.  John apparently died in Carter County, KY some time after 1839. Can anyone help?
