I don't understand latest WikiTree News

• raditional GEDCOM import has officially ended on WikiTree. Tomorrow we open our completely new GEDCOMpare system for dynamically adding and improving WikiTree profiles using GEDCOM data. More news on this major change coming soon.
• Registration is now open for the Source-a-Thon, our 72-hour sourcing marathon to kick off Family History Month in October. 152 WikiTreers already have their race number. Get yours to be eligible for the $4,600 in randomly-awarded prizes.

Those are two completely different things - not related to each other at all - except for how they affect wikipeeps (as Mags calls us).

There is a change to the way GEDCOMS will be uploaded starting from today.

The Source-a-thon will held at the end of September.

Well I hadn't seen that the GEDCOM change was ready for implementation yet but it's great news, or at least I hope so.  The current form of GEDCOM import has been the bane of our existence here on WikiTree and led to most of junk profiles.  If the new system works the way we're all hoping it does it may lead to both much faster profile entry and fewer ones with no real sources.  So I'm off to see what the details are.
