WikiTree ID#s are your Friends

I usually work from my offline trees by printing out Outline Descendant Reports.  This gives me the basic information I need to enter a profile.  But usually I print out much more than I feel like entering at a given time.  So I move on to another line of relatives and put the one I was working on in a pile.  But recently I realized I need to do one important thing before I put the partly entered report aside.  I need to make sure that I put the WikiTree ID # for at least one of the profiles in the report next to the corresponding line.  Thus the Outline Descendant Report for Hiram Ankram Kilgore that I'm presently working on now has -1415 next to it at the top of the first page.  So when I decide  I want to enter more people from the report I just need to go to a current profile page and replace the ID # at the top with Kilgore-1415. This saves a good bit of time trying to find family again, especially if I haven't worked on it in a while and thus can't find it easily by looking at my recent contributions page or my watch list..

Great tip, Dave! Thanks much. I will certainly be using it, too.

Yes I do the same thing only my notes are done in notepad on my hard drive.

I always add the profile url for that person to his or her notepad file so that I just need to copy and paste it back into the browser and go straight there!!

I do the same thing with sources as well - I save the urls to sources in the profile files in notepad.

Saves me such a lot of time!! LOL

I always add the WikiTree ID as a custom Fact in Family Tree Maker with a custom source containing the URL. This is sync'd to my Ancestry Tree and is also in my tree on Rootsweb.
