No parents for John Sturdivant

Question

I have no parents for John Sturdivant who was married to Leticia Callis Sturdivant.  On Ancestry I have come across the birth record of a John Sturdivant, born to James and Mary Sturdivant 22 September, 1766.  (Wow, my sister's birthday)  The records is in the Bristol Paris for Henrico, Dinwiddie, and Prince George Counties.

I am going to save the register of birth to my shoebox in Ancestry, but wondered if any one else can confirm this?

Not quite off topic but the ROTTENBERRY/ROTTENBURY lines in Virginia are descended from one ancestor and one prominent branch changed the spelling to RODDENBERRY as in Star Trek's GENE. Trust me on this. Much discussed at the 50th anniversary Star Trek convention. We had a rep from the Virginia Historical Society on the panel.

That is good information to be aware of.  I haven't added the Rottenberry to the family tree yet, still checking on it....but it is great to know when I do!  Thanks so much for letting me, and others know. :)

An aside:  A genealogy rep on the panel for the Star Trek Convention?  :)  Just had to notice and remark upon that. :)

In Cleveland Ohio. Hometown of Majel Barrett Roddenberry. We had a panel hosted by the Freiberger Library. Majel is descended from the distinguished DAR recognized ROUSCULP family. Both Gene and Majel have lines extending through the American Revolution, back to the Scotch Irish Presbyterians in Augusta County Virginia

Do not think you are nuts, just seemed to be an odd pair, you know?  Did not know all that about Majel Barrett Roddenberry.  Ashamed to say I did not know the name.  A very distinguised line of ancestry!  :)

Majel's father was a Cleveland police officer killed in the line of duty.

(I prob'ly am non compos mental otherwise why wud I be on wikitree ! )

I am very sorry to hear about Majel's father.  My brother retired, after 30 years, 2 years ago.  He was a police officer in the San Diego area.  If you ever heard about the cop who got stabbed in the neck by a prisoner who took the pen right out of my brother's pocket, that was my brother.  I am SO very glad he is retired.  All we did was worry about him all the time.  He is 6'5" and quite often just his height was a disadvantage to him.  People would want to see if they could challenge him. He even had to wrestle a few times with San Diego Charger players if he pulled them over for one thing or another.   Very glad he is done!

If you see or speak to Majel, please let him know how sorry I am about his father.  My heart breaks for him.

I'm about to add the parents once I get a little more research done - my library's access to Ancestry is down (I'm assuming because of Hurricane Irma) - the source I added with John's birth states his parents as James Sturdivant and Mary Rottenberry and then if these actually are his parents then James is the son of Henry Sturdivant (Sturdivant-327).

If you have access to Ancestry Betty you can do some more looking around :)

I can access Ancestry. Just came across the record of the marriage of John and Leticia.  Also found another, maybe his brother, James, married to Fanny Callis.  Keepin' it in the family, so to speak!  Thanks Sarah!!
