I'm not really much help Laurie, just intrigued, I also have ancestors from the Lanivet area of Cornwall.  Mostly Marshalls and related families (I don't recall any marriages into Sowden and Northey families).

I have checked NZ Papers Past and found an obit. for a Northey from Truro & a death notice for a Northey from Redruth.

Looking at the WW1 soldiers database a Sowden was in the NZ Army and gave his next of kin as living in Saint Eval , Cornwall.

Are any of these of any interest to you?

The Northey's who went to New Zealand changed their name to Northe. There is a large family tree of the NZ Northes. A second emigration (I think a gereration later) went to Hill End a gold mining district in NSW Australia and are famous for their contribution.

Thank you for helping with my research and, I will start my enquiries into the Northe connections. Again thank you.

Laurie
I have linked in the North/ Northe/ Northy clan that settled in Napier back to my distant forebears from Chasewater, Kea, Kenwyn area. It seems the earliest NZ Northey migrating was John Northey via Parramatta Australia in early 1800s. He and his offspring used every spelling possible, or was it the registrars in NZ at the time? And yes a couple of generations later, the same extended family had 4 brothers Northey from Cornwall settle in Ballarat gold mining area in the 1850s. From there some offspring went to Hindmarsh, Adelaide and Balmain, Sydney areas. The next generation (my grandfather)  finding his way to NZ in 1916 a hundred years after John.

Another branch of Northeys arrived in Christchurch in mid 1800s, and I'm keen to find how they are connected in. I am very happy to discuss further with any extended family.
