"Michigan" before 1815

I have several ancestors that were born in what is now Michigan before the United States began. The suggestions I get for place end with:

  • Michigan, United States (1837-)
  • Michigan Territory, United States (1815-1837)

What should I put for 1746?

1660 - 1763: Nouvelle France

1763 - 1783 (1796): Province of Quebec (Detroit area)

(1791 - 1796: Kent County, Upper Canada - Detroit area)

until 1800: Northwest Territory

until 1805: Indiana Territory

until 1837 Michigan Territory

Dates for the transfer from France to Britain an US vary from source to source depending on what is used: de facto control or de jure power due to treaties.

I believe Michigan was French territory in 1746.

"Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit, Nouvelle-France" would be the correct way to enter the place of birth for the year in question, I believe.
