Hi Nor'Easters (and wanna-be Nor'Easters? Our team's not full yet!),

This is a post for us to communicate with each other before and during the big event this weekend. Are you ready for it?

I'll update this post with more information over the next couple days. In the meantime, maybe you could post with an answer to introduce yourself?

Chris

P.S. Steven Tibbetts is going to help lead our team. Steven, perhaps you could introduce yourself?

Since Team Acadia overlaps in geography with your team, I feel like we are going to be natural rivals. I'm keeping an eye on you! ;-)
You could just give up now and fold the Acadians into the Nor'Easters. We might allow it.
Assimilate the Acadians? It's been tried before. Didn't work. Nice try! :)
Ouch! Touche.
Good Morning all. I'm a little new to all this group work in wikitree but I've had some great coordination ideas in the past in other areas. Teamwork is the key here. As far as the Acadians, if they could be assimilated we wouldn't have had to send them to the Louisiana swamps right? ;)
Watch out, Nor'Easters! I'm not on your team, but recently I've added the Unsourced template to quite a few Maine profiles. You'll be busy!
Thanks, Ellen!

I do wish you were a Nor'Easter. I saw your name on the roster for Team New York and got jealous.
Sorry, Chris. I won't have much time for the challenge this weekend, so I'm not going to be a major contributor to any team. And I know more about research and geography for Connecticut and New York than I do for Maine and the maritime provinces, so I'll invest my limited time where I can do more good. It's just that I happened upon a lot of unsourced Maine profiles while researching unsourced Sawyer profiles for the Surname Spotlight challenge. (I sourced some of the profiles I found and made some connections between family members, but I kept finding more and more...)
That is my problem. If you find a source it tends to point to an ever widening amount of new profiles. The one that was the most fun is when they merged a father and son and he was married to his mother and was his own father.
Oh, but it's so satisfying to get those messed-up families straightened out!
Nice one !!!

Hi! I just signed up and asked for the Nor'Easters as my team. I've been doing some work on my Maine family lately & hope it helps.

I'll mostly be available on Sunday, October 1.

As soon as I get the info for targetted profiles I will put them into a sheet I've made which also has a livechat feature. I'm hoping this will help us co-ordinate as well as socialize. The link is at the bottom of our profile page.

Get your fingers warmed up and your sourcing links handy people. :)

DBE_Unsourced is the master list we can use on this event.

It's time! Woop woop!!

It started yesterday! Friday 12:01am eastern. It is now saturday 12:29 eastern
I'm now clocking in myself. Get much done, Judi and Steven?

I think I'll start with some low-hanging fruit: 20th century Massachusetts ... http://www.softdata.si/wt/Unsourced_20170924/MA/2_1900-1999_0.htm
I'm on the west coast, so it started at 9PM Friday for me.
Trying just to add the good source for each profile and not go too far down the rabbit hole. Found some duplicates and added merge requests. That makes me almost as happy as adding the sources for today's event.

It's amazing how many 150 year plus profiles are written from "first hand knowledge".

Hey Team: I've come across 2013 created profiles with old formatting and no source records, and they are not indicated as {{Unsourced}}. I'm providing sources for these profiles, too.

Awesome! Hey, is there any way to check our stats? I want to make sure that I am doing it right.

Hey Denise Chiasson, you just won a prize, You need to claim it before the next hangout.

Hello-

I was just going over the stats page... I don't appear on it :(.... I have spent about 6 hours cleaning up Maine and Massachusetts unsourced files.  Help! What did I do wrong? I want the 40 + records that I sourced counted for us! Thank you!

Also, only changes that I made in my personal tree are showing up in my history feed. Not the bunches of random Maine and Massachusetts files I worked on today. I am really confused. Please help me to figure out what I am doing wrong. Thank you.
Hi Beth,

I see 93 from you on http://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTChallengesScores/Scores.htm?code=SourceaThon2017&Type=0 now. Maybe the page wasn't updating when you checked?

As for your contributions https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&who=Stephenson-2354 if you can find a particular profile you edited that does not appear there, post the WikiTree ID and I will take a look.
Posted on her profile as well

This is actually a question - is there some trick that will add your profile link and time/date stamp after a note in a profile? I seem to remember reading about one but I've forgotten the details.
by Deborah Barber G2G6 (8.9k points)
Hi Deborah.

That's right. It's four tildes: ~~~~

I usually do that with Research Notes.
