How many sources do you need to find per profile?
Only have to do one and that is what the system will count it as. If easy to find others, feel free though so it is more sourced.
I joined the first hangout, but it opened in YouTube and I could not see or make any comments. What did I do wrong? I clicked on the link to get there from the schedule page.
If you join during the live hangout, there will be a comment/chat window on the right that you can use to participate. The first hangout was relatively short so you may have joined after it ended.

Hi

I've signed up for a team:  Massachusetts 600.  How do I find my bib number?

(Remember, there are no dumb questions -- lol!)
by Janine Barber G2G6 Pilot (230k points)
You're #137 :)

If you need to find your number, as we all have those days, the easiest way is to go to your personal profile page. Click on your ID number at the top and part way down will be a G2G profile link. Click it and when that screen comes up, go to the link for recent activity. It will tell you the most recent posts you commented on. That should tell you which sign up page you are on. Click the chat for it and look. You will have to search through that post until you find it but it gets you to the right one really quick and easy.

Thank you!

My laptop software was being reloaded (4 days in the shop) & my Internet connection has been very irregular; it was timing out when I tried to access different parts of Wikitree, such as my "Contributions".

Sometimes software is our friend, and sometimes it's just another swamp full of lily pads, and my canoe gets a little stuck.  Grins, Janine
I love it, can I steal that last part?
Be my guest!  It's based on personal experience on a New Hampshire lake.

If genealogists can retain a sense of humor, all is not lost!

I had wondered and had a teammate ask, where do the points go after we click the button? Is there a place we can see how we are doing and if so on what basis?(individual, team, group...)

Thank you to all those setting this up for this! You were amazing last year and so far this year. It is going to be a great weekend.

I just checked the tracking page and my activity doesn't seem to be registering. I've sourced at least 25 persons since midnight and have clicked Challenge Tracker, ensured that my WikiTree ID is entered and correct, selected the challenge and added the action and I see the challenge history has updated. In the challenge history there isn't a user listed however and I don't show up on the tracking page.
by Michael Honeycutt G2G1 (1.3k points)
Aleš is asleep right now.  Once he is up, he'll be able to update the numbers so they show real time activity.
I checked again since the numbers had been updated and I don't show up on my team Team Tennessee or separately. I'm fairly certain that I'm doing everything correctly.
I didn't show up on the tally page anywhere.  I was using the challenge tracker and ended up sourcing 13 profiles.   It was disappointing not seeing my contributions being counted.  My bib number was 319.

When I click Challenge Tracker, I get the message below, I'm logged on and definitely sourcing open profiles, Not sure what is going on.  Does it work better with a different web browser?

User ID not found: 17452595

Note: Private profiles are not part of public database so try parents or grandparents.

UserID = 00847022 ProfileID = IP=58.165.235.127 Error in parameters.

by John Atkinson G2G6 Pilot (619k points)
The User ID number changes each time, but rest of message stays the same.

Hit this problem with both Google chrome and Firefox
OK I was working on profiles that were Unsourced but didn't have the Unsourced template as per this G2G https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/470614/what-profiles-count-as-unsourced-for-the-source-a-thon

But I was getting the messages above, when I did source a profile from the Unsourced List it worked fine.

Don't know if anyone else is having this experience?
Did you find out anything about this situation, John?  One of my team members is experiencing the same thing.
Not really Ros, unfortunately.  I just did source a profile that didn't have an unsourced template and it worked fine but was having problems earlier.

Maybe if we ask a new question on G2G and attract Aleš attention to see if he has any insights?

I also have the same issue, with different numbers obviously. In my case it also says: WikiTree ID not found: K%F3czy-1. Great!

This was the isue with changed LNAB or new profiles after last dump. I corrected the tracker, to count also those.
I have had this happen and one of my team members Just said they keep having this happen.
Can you next time give me exact URL, so I can check what the problem is.

This is the last one that posted.

User ID not found: 17412137

Note: Private profiles are not part of public database so try parents or grandparents.

UserID = ProfileID = 8513446 IP=73.130.19.121 Error in parameters.

Cool, thank you. She said all of hers are giving her that information. I told her to give me the error info so they can be checked into. Also, none of hers are showing up in the tracking.
Try again. I think now it will work. She will have to enter McManus-2668 the first time.
She changed LNAB after Sunday(last dump), so her ID is not visible to me yet.
K, thank you so much.

I located a good source for a locked profile. What should I do with it?

I [ot it in a comment for the profile manager to take it check it and add it.

Anything else I need to do?
by Gigi Tanksley G2G6 Mach 4 (44.2k points)
Sorry but it will not count on this challenge. But thanks for sourcing anyway.

I asked the team leader but am also posting it here because it is not clear to me:

I have sourced two profiles https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lombard-776 and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lombard-834 - Both a '''Maria Johanna Lombard''' and both with similar but different parents (I still need to connect the dots and merge and add marriage records) and have a few questions:

a) Where do I (bulk) add them? (I saw the answer somewhere but now got lost in all the multiple help pages and linked pages)

b) Why does the tracker not show my history? (it does just after I entered the data and saved, but then when I added the second profile there was nothing to be seen anymore - and we have started in the correct time zone this time around)

c) Does the tracker see them as one profile?
by Philip van der Walt G2G6 Pilot (171k points)
a.) You don't. You can only add them one at the time and only after profile save.

b.) Tracker shows the history of profile being saved. You can check your history from challenge scores. (Tracker link next to the user.)

c.) not clear what you are asking but I think No.
What is the difference between Official and Unofficial (last two columns) - both profile had no other primary sources on them before I added the baptism transcriptions - they are from the same source - why is one official and one unofficial?
Official is for profiles in unsourced category or with error 802 or 803. Later it was decided to count all so unofficial are those. They both count the same. Unofficial just might be checked occasionally.
Your answer does not make sense Ales. What is error 802 / 803? And - if all unsourced profiles (according to the definition Chris gave) count, why then do two profiles with exactly the same source end up in two separate category's? Anyhow - it does not matter because I do not want to make an issue out of this. Was just wondering - does adding links to sources in comment boxes also count ...? Because I think there might be some who are doing that. It is not the quantity that counts (it is the quality). Thanks for the hard work you with other have done on this Ales, I appreciate it.
If someone adds the source in a post, which might be the best way if it's a project protected profile of a project you're not a member of, they can remove only the Unsourced template and save the profile and use the challenge tracker where they can mention they added the source in a post ..that way it will count ;) And project leaders or members can add the Source to the profile in the way they prefer.

Hi,

I sourced some profiles a few hours ago and added then via the Challenges Checker (eg http://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTChallenge/Challenge.htm?UserID=17271016&ProfileID=12213509)

However, my contributions don't seem to be showing up in Nr of Profiles by Users for SourceaThon2017

http://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTChallengesScores/Scores.htm?code=SourceaThon2017&Type=5
by Living Guthrie G2G6 Mach 8 (80.3k points)
I'm in the same boat. I've sourced around 50 profiles since midnight and don't show up in the tracker at all.
I've also made a number of changes that don't seem to have shown up.
Result table generator was down. Scores were recorded and now it shows the results.
+7 votes

Are the clocks correct for the results? Looking at my own SAT contribution history, the timestamps show as starting at 23:06, but that was CDT; the first source was completed at 00:06 EDT. I did 15 unique profiles in the first hour, and my total shown at http://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTChallengesScores/Scores.htm?code=SourceaThon2017 is just about exactly 15 below what I think the true count should be.

Am I imagining things, or is that worth checking?

Scenario:

I open an unsourced profile. I find a source, reference it, and update the challenge tracker.

I note that the profile is orphaned. If I adopt it, after sourcing it, will it still count for the challenge? Only unsure as I know the challenge isn't for sourcing our own profiles.
by Anne Buckmaster G2G4 (4.5k points)
It will count. It is not totally in line with the rules, but you will get a point.

After sourcing a profile, I looked at the siblings, and all of those profiles are unsourced too, but they don't have the unsourced template.  What's the best way to handle these, add the unsourced template, then go back and add the source?  Would they count for the challenge?  These are not profiles that I have created.
by Cindi Clark G2G6 Mach 2 (20.5k points)
I found the answer.
I hope you found that you just claim the sourcing on tracker without adding and removing unsourced.
I did thank you.

I was a winner of the 9 AM (EDT) drawing, and I answered with a prize request for the World Explorer Ancestry membership.  But they delete the messages after every drawing, so I don't know where things stand.  Do I need to do anything else, or will I receive some sort of confirmation?  Thanks...
by Jay Benefiel G2G6 Mach 1 (18.5k points)
Hi Jay, we don't delete them, we just hide them so other people don't get confused and it's obvious who the current winners are. I'll be in touch after the Source-a-Thon with all the winners.
Thanks for the quick response and for clarifying!

What is the difference between the official and the unoffical columns in the tracker? WHat makes one of the profiles unofficially tracked?
by Natalie Trott G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
Official are the ones that had an Unsourced template last monday when Ales updated things or let's say when he made an Inventory of all profiles that had the Unsourced template, so all those profiles from that Inventory are the Official ones.

Unofficial are the ones that didn't have the Unsourced template yet when Ales made the Inventory, or perhaps never had the Unsourced template, but that perhaps are Unsourced as well, at first it was decided they would not count, but now they do..so... if for example you are sourcing parents that both had the Unsourced template and discover the children or other familymembers all are Unsourced as well, but there was just no Unsourced template added to those, you can now also source them and they will count ...and those are the ones you will see in the Unofficial list if I'm correct .
Thank you, Bea. Now I get it!
My pleasure Natalie and happy hunting and have fun !

Is there an exact link to see how the TEAMS are doing?

I don't know how to use hangouts.
by G R G2G6 Mach 1 (15.6k points)
Yeah, in the question part of this post there are several links. Click the one called "Tracking".  That'll take you to a list of links where you can view by team, by user, by team and user, etc.

About how far back from 2017 should "First hand knowledge" be accepted as the only source?  Will a sourced census be counted if it replaces the fairly modern one?

On the tracker it shows that it was last updated (30.09.2017 21:40:42 - Slovenian time), which is about an hour and a half ago or so. Is there a more updated tracker link or does it just need some time to update currently? Thanks!

Is the tracker working?  Three people on my team reported it just spinning.
by Star Kline G2G6 Pilot (721k points)
Its; just spinning when I try it, too.
Same here. I've got a back up of sources to log. :-/
My experience too.

Just ran into back-to-back random profiles pulled the U.S. unsourced lists that didn't really look like they had been sourced, and I failed to check the recent changes before diving in. My bad. After I removed the Unsourced template and added a new source, I saved and went to the tracker...only to find that someone had beat me to it by hours.

I'm going to take the time to start checking the last-change log on all profiles before I touch them, but could we reinforce to everyone that the Unsourced template or category has to come off a profile if they add a source and count it in the tracker? These two were the third and fourth I've hit this afternoon.

You're part of Team Tennessee. Some teams are split into Team I or Team II so the team tallies are fairly even. You're still part of the team as a whole, but your personal tally will boost your specific Team I, II, or III portion.

Linda Barnett is your leader -they're a great resource if you have a question.

These are your fellow team members with their bib numbers:

*Team Tennessee I

we used the # to make a numbered teamlist, you can split this list up, by just moving one half a bit down and adding a content (===Team Tennessee II===) between both (so in the middle). That's all ;)
Thank you very much Bea your are a wonderful Wiki Treer.
Dito Linda you are pretty wonderful also :D
