Regarding birth of a child to a military member while overseas [closed]

+5 votes
My son, Eric, was born in 1982.  He was born in Germany while I was stationed overseas.  He passed away at the age of five months.  It has occurred to me, during the Source-a-thon, that there are no sources in his profile.  Is my "first-hand" account enough?

He had dual citizenship at birth and if I remember right his birth certificate states, across the top, Birth of Citizen Born Abroad.  (I'd have to get it out of the box it is in somewhere)  I know it may be too soon because of the date of his birth, but how do I find it?  (If it isn't too soon) Do I have to look in both the U.S. and Germany?

His profile is open, I see no reason to keep it private, so it can be seen.

Thank you very much!

Now, back to the Source-a-thon, was at work last night, didn't get a whole lot done here.

His US State Dept form for a US citizen born abroad is a first hand source and can be added to the sources for his profile. In the citation put the title of the document, the form number, the agency's name, and that [[Tindle-19|Betty Tindle]] has a copy as of and put the current date. There is probably a consular report as well or whatever DoD form the US Army uses to send to the State Dept.

If you could find his German birth certificate then add that too.

In my case, there was also Canadian national insurance paperwork from the hospital to back up the Certificate of Birth of a Citizen Born Abroad. I also found the certified copy of Consular Report of Birth (FS-240).

Thank you very much!!  When I get a chance I will find the certificate and scan it to put on here, plus I will check the places you have mentioned. Thanks!  :)
