Duplicate family tree unsourced, no dates and mostly untouched since 2011

After two years here on WikiTree, I've stumbled across a duplicate family tree that I didn't even know existed - by chance while participating in the Source-A-Thon and working on unsourced Scottish profiles.
There are no sources, no dates and the LNAB is often not that on the original Old Parish Registers (eg McKinlay rather than Kinly). The tree seems to originate from a GEDCOM import from 2011 that hasn't really been touched since.

Will all these empty profiles  have to be gone through manually one by one and an attempt made to match and merge them?

Regards,

Iain

According the guidelines duplicates need to be merged.

But it looks like you could spend the rest of your life clearing up after someone made a quick GEDCOM add that has created loads of empty profiles.

Is it ever OK not to merge duplicates?

All duplicates should be merged, but you might not be willing or able to complete a merge at the time you notice the duplicate.

If the two profiles have a conflicting Last Name at Birth, wait until you know which one is correct. This is important.

Most of the profiles are not even marked as unsourced. I only noticed them because someone had tagged one for the Source-A-Thon.
If the other profile is sourced, I would just suggest a merge, and not try to also source the unsourced one.

You could make a note of it somewhere, and suggest all the merges later if you want to continue sourcing right now.
