Holy Cow We are smashing last years source-a-thon numbers

Question

About the source-a-thon, I just wanted tosay that we are barely half way through - 36 hours - and we have already PASSED the total number of profiles that were sourced in last years competition. THat number was something 22,000 profiles.

We are currently sitting at 25, 862

AND we have less people sourcing this year than we did last year. Last year we had over 600 sourcerers. THIS year we have 400 who signed up and something like 300 active sourcorers - according to what Ales has said.

WAY TO GO WIKIPEEPS!!!

As someone said on the 12 pm EDT hangout - the Tracker sure makes a huge difference.

I think the fact that we can track ourselves and compete against ourselves and each other as it were - makes a huge difference.

We are now over 26,000 profiles sourced!!

Correction 490 signed up and 90 didn't source yet. so over 400 are actually sourcing.

I hate to throw cold water on this, but I'm seeing alot of profiles being sourced as something to the effect of:

*United States Federal Census Records 1880-1940
{state} Marriage Records
Find a Grave

That isn't a source. That isn't documentation at all.  No links to anything no nothing.

Then there's one member who's "sourcing", for the competition, her own gedcom, about two years old, and the profiles are red and yellow locked

and as I noted yesterday, an entire family was "sourced" with the wrong census.

I applaud the members who are doing good work. They're wonderful. But there will be messes to clean up when comes the time for merges etc

About twice as many people sourced 100 or more profiles (compared to 2016). Such great fun!

That's amazing dedication isn't it. I've had to take a break because my mouse arm is dropping off, lol.

It's been great fun taking part. It's not normally my sort of thing and it's the first time in my 3 years at wikitree that I haven taken part in one of these challenges. It's been quite addictive. I've even been watching the video updates on youtube. I though I was a fast worker but I've not even made it to 100 yet. Amazed that some people have done 1,000 sources.

Don't worry Earl. I'm captain of my team and I havent gotten to 100 yet either - but that is my goal!!  LOL

Fortunately I have a superstar on my team who already has over 1000 profiles sourced and she is - um - I think she is sleeping right now, her stats havent moved for a while. LOL
