Any Dodd families who stayed in Pennsylvania after 1800 and didn't go to Virginia?

HI, I'm looking for the correct Dodd family line and parents of my ancestor Reuben Ward Dodd b.1815 in Pennsylvania (Dodd-3864). Not to be confused with Reuben Ward Dodd b. 1812 who I think is a descendant of the Daniel Dodd line. I'm looking for Dodd families who were living in Pennsylvania in 1815.

Also my Dodd line is filled with gifted musicians who play various instruments, read music, and play very well by ear. Any other Dodd lines out there have this talent in their line too? Reuben Ward Dodd is my white whale. I would like to find his parents and where he comes form.

Thanks,
Joy Denice Dodd

Hi Joy, and Welcome

Here is a link to Ancestry, a family tree in which Rueben is included:

https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/19801910/person/853391715/facts?_phsrc=bqy1&_phstart=successsource

I am not sure the link will work for you, so to find it you should look on the right side of his profile, below the messages. You will find a link to "RootsSearch"  After you sign in, all the info about him on WikiTree will be on the page and you can then select to search Ancestry or FamilySearch (among others). Easy - you get to the correct page without any fuss.

You can look around a lot for information, if you use the family trees posted on Ancestry (or anywhere) you need to check that they have good sources, we really like to have good sources on profiles.

Happy Tree Climbing.

Hi Kristina,

I don't have an ancestry.com account and cannot access this link without a valid login.

Does that ancestry.com tree have the names of the parents of Reuben Ward Dodd born in 1815? It is very difficult searching for him because I always end up finding the other guy. If I had his parents name it would be a helpful start.

Thanks ~Joy

It does not give parents but does agree with spouse and gives a list of children: Rachel Emaline 1839 NJ, Mary Elizabeth 1841, NJ, Isaac Martin 1842 NJ, Sarah Jane 1844 1844 NJ, Aaron Chester 1846 NJ, Ward Munson 1848 Illinois, Hannah Josephine 1854,Illinois, Charles Reuben 1858, Illinois.  (Dodd is the surname for all, I did not include it)

I wonder if you will be able to find any of them on WikiTree (I will look, but cannot do it right now).

The source in Ancestry is World Family Tree Vol. 3, Ed.1

Since Reuben is listed as a Pioneer, Humboldt, Iowa - have you looked at Iowa genealogy sites?

There is an entry in Ancestry giving marriage date as Nov 29, 1836. There is no location given.

I will look again later, time to do my farm thing.
I have everything about his family after him, but not about the people who came before. Thanks for looking for me. That just confirms that Ancestry doesn't have anything that the records I inherited don't have.

WikiTree is my first genealogy website experience. I've mostly been in contact with individual genealogist working on similar projects. I will look into Iowa and Pennsylvania sites. But I know the answer has to be in Pennsylvania where he was born not Iowa where he migrated. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. Cheers!

Reuben Ward Dodd, born 2 April 1815 (?1814) Ridgebury, Bradford County, PA.  He was my Gr. Grandfather on my fathers side.  I have seached for his father's first name for years.  I know his mother was Abigail Mandeville who had a son with her first husband was Aaron VanNess (Aaron Jr).  Her father's will mentions Reuben and Aaron.  See Stone House Plains records in New Jersey.   Later in life Reuben lived near Shabbona, Illinois and neighbors were Aaron and their uncle Nicolas Mandeville.  These are the clues I have worked with but at this date still have no first name for the Dodd who was his father.  I grew up in Humboldt County, Iowa near Pioneer, so the basic birth date info is from direct relatives.  Reuben and Mary lived in Bloomfield and Newark, N.J. and moved to DeKalb County IL in 1847.  There is a record of a daughter buried in Bloomfield cemetary in 1840 at less than 1 year old.  I have a history written by Albert Hedeen and Ella Thompson as well as records from my father's family.  Good luck and contact me if you wish.l
