I was reviewing the 1875 census more, because everyone from the locality seems to live next to or near the family of their spouse.  I found a large number of Smith's in the near vicinity and the same district that could be brothers, sisters or parents of Albert, and I noticed that some were born in Ireland.  I'm wondering if Alfred's father (and/or mother) immigrated from Ireland.

Hi Loraine,

I see that Alfred had a bunch of sons.  There should be plenty of living yDNA to get a test done.  The yDNA is passed from each father to each of his sons.  We have found that yDNA is really the only way to sort out the Smith paternal lines.  With a yDNA test, we can often determine which Smith family is your paternal line, and then you can ignore all the rest of the Smith lines because they are not your genetic relatives.

I strongly recommend that you get one of your brothers or a Smith male cousin to do a yDNA37 marker test. We have 88 matching yDNA groups in our SmithConnections Northeastern DNA Project.  You may be related to one of these groups, or you may be in a new or unmatched group, but only a yDNA test will tell.  Here is  our project website:  https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/smith-connections/about/results  You can order a test kit and Join the project through our Join button on the banner head.  There are different tests, but you will need a yDNA37 marker test at a minimum for your male Smith test participant.  If you order the test, he can be completely anonymous.

Hope you join us soon!  I would love to see if we could find your colonial ancestors.

I totally agree.  Problem is getting them to agree to it & the cost.  Once I have the $$, I'll get my sister In law or cousin in law to help with getting one to agree to it.

Thank you Frank.  I actually have all the census records and his descendants (just haven't put them all as references in wikitree yet.  I appreciate you looking.  I've tried everything I can think of -- reading books, newspaper searches, articles, searching nearby states, and I cannot locate anything.  None of them owned land as far as I can tell.  Frustrating because of the "Smith" name.

Again, thank you Frank.  I did have this information and Pricilla's mother's name.  I'm still seeking information for her father and onward.
