I have kids to pass this down to (my tree research) but they don't seem to care. (Maybe they will when they get older?) Anyway I often ask myself the same question.

Anyway, I'm doing it, I enjoy it, and it's been both fun and rewarding. So, kick off your shoes and enjoy your research. Welcome to WikiTree!!
I don't have kids to pass my research on to either.  But, when my father asked me to research his family, I got hooked.  I figure if I don't have anyone there has got to be distant relatives or long lost cousins that my info may help sometime down the road.

Also, it makes me feel like I am contributing in some small way to the world.

Welcome!  This is a great place with lots of great people willing to help!

Sheila

Welcome Tammy,  Just take your time working through the research process.   You have found a site that welcomes questions.  Also be sure to look at the help areas.  My plan is working on my own ancestors who were pioneer farmers ...not a famous  person in the bunch, but I  love discovering and documenting their lives.   The  important thing is documentation of good sources.   It is a real rush to find and source a connection that no one else has found.  This site makes it possible to share your discoveries with any future researchers.   Good luck...Enjoy!  Cherry

Howdy Tammy,
"Why" That IS the Milliion Dollar question and I suppose the answer varies depending on who you ask. "I have no kids to pass this down to" - maybe that's your answer right there. I've often wondered why it is my Father (or anyone else in the family) never took the time to do this, some of us are just born to be the family historian, or at least are born with that desire to find out where we really come from while others dont give it a moments thought. They're missing out if you ask me...

Hello Tammy. My grandmother was a Caldwell from the WV clan. Some of our ancestors migrated to Harlan County Kentucky, so perhaps others from our family moved on to TN.

If you don't have info on John Acey Caldwell's parents, there is an Ancestry.com tree belonging to paul_scott_stanford that lists them as James Caldwell 1800 - 1848 born in Virginia and married to Rebecca Cleary. And an 1850 census with Rebecca and children, including John aged 22 in District 10, Fayette, Tennessee.

I don't see a link yet between James b 1800 in Virginia and my Caldwell's, but very likely that there is one.

Cheers,

~Pam

It will not be a connection. i have those who have done dna test saying that profile was made before the dna was done.but thank you.but 1850 census is the correct line to follow

Hi Tammy!

My Colwell/Culwell/Caldwell family lived in the Smithville, DeKalb County area of Tennessee. I see your question was some time ago...how is it going?! I have hit a brick wall on one of my descendants, and just posted a question...that is how I come across your question.

I have quite a few Caldwells listed in my tree. Maybe we are related. Let me know if you have a current question about someone in your tree, and I will see if I can assist.
