GEDCompare seems to work, but not sure how to add the results to wikitree

About 3 months ago I added about 1100 profiles with the old GED import process, it took time to resolve all the potential matches but it worked fine. Those profiles were a small part of my father's side of the tree.

Now I have used GEDcompare beta in the last 2 days to import a small part of my mother's tree (142 profiles from a GED file). This worked as I expected, I got 56 potential matches, 47 were bad matches and I rejected, 4 were profiles I had manually entered on my mothers side, and 3 were matches with existing profiles that other people had entered, so those 4+3 I accepted.

So now GEDcompare says "0 suggested matches to consider" as expected, and all rows except the 7 matches have an add button (seems correct).

But now when I press add button for any particular row, I get a page that says this should only be used for people that are not connected to my tree. These are all profiles where I know exactly what the relationship is to my existing wikitree profiles, but I don't know how I can enter these people.  It seems that GEDcompare now knows about these 135 new profiles and what their relationships are to each other. But it seems like what I have to do now is manually type in every bit of information (including large amounts of notes) for each person by first finding a profile for say a sibling or a child of that person and adding from that profile.

This seems very inefficient. For example wikitree already has my mother's mother Gladys. And GEDcompare knows that (since I marked Gladys in the GEDcompare results as a match for the existing Gladys profile). And for example GEDCompare now has all the information and notes from Gladys' sister Holly (from the GED but not in wikitree yet). But so far it seems like I will just have to type Holly's information in again from scratch? Am I missing something here? Is there some place that I can just say that I want to add Holly (from the GED import info) as a sister under Glady's existing profile on Wikitree?

It seems to me that GEDcompare has the information at this point to have one button that would input all of the 135 new people and all of their notes, into the existing tree.

thanks Tom

Find a profile in your Gedcom that you matched to a profile already in WikiTree (for example, your grandmother or grandfather). Click the "Compare" button for that profile; then use the "Add" buttons on that Compare screen to add their parents, children, and spouses. Once their parents have been added, you can also add siblings. Continue to work through the Gedcompare file by working off the "Compare" page for relatives that have already been added to WikiTree. By doing that, you will ensure that the connections in your gedcom (at least most of them -- it's a good idea to review your work and see if all the spouse, child, and parent connections are properly created) will be preserved.

Thanks, that was very clear and very helpful. I am adding the new profiles one by one and it is working well.

BTW I did notice one bug in GEDCompare, if a note in the GED file happens to have a dollar sign followed by digits, then both will disappear during the GEDCompare process.

In other words the note "It seems that $75 went a long way" will be changed during the GEDcompare process into "It seems that  went a long way". I am guessing that the GEDcompare code is treating the [dollar sign + digits] as an undefined macro.

Can someone tell me where to report bugs like that?

thanks -Tom
Start a separate g2g thread.  Title it something like

GEDCOMpare Bug: $ symbol not recognized

Tag the topic with gedcompare

Explain the situation as you did above.
Interesting. A similar bug appeared the previous time that gedcom processing was enhanced. (I reported it then.)
