Looking for my Great Grandfather Frederick Jospeth Olds

Question

Hi, I was told in my Teens that my Great Grandfather was part Maori.

He was born 1901 in Wanganui, New Zealand.

His father was Frederick Olds & his mother was Avies (Brider) Olds.

Frederick was an Engine Driver and lived at 24 Copeland Street, Wanganui

according to family search.org, there were some probates, one in 1939 and another in 1945, possibly mother and father. no other info is listed. possibly son of another Frederick and Elizabeth (myheritage.com). according to (find a grave,) may possibly have died in 1955, greymouth, west coast, new Zealand.

Hi, John Mortimer Olds died in 1939 and is buried at the Waikumete Cemetery. He was married to Elizabeth Olds & had 2 children together. He then abandoned them and re-married to Gertrude Ivy (born Pengelly) Olds in 1930 in Greymouth, New Zealand.

It appears that many of the 'Olds' family re-used first names on several siblings.

There's John Mortimer,  John Murdock Jr, Herbert John Olds.

The same for the name Frederick; different spelling: Frederick & Fredrick.

Also Avies Beatrice being spelt Avis.

Clarity would be appreciated.

Yes, this is true. The Olds family often gave their children the same name as their father. They were spread out from Greymouth (Pengelly) to Tauranga where my step brother John Olds Jr lives and also many relatives in an around Wanganui.

My Grandfather John olds died in 1939 & is buried at Waikumete Cemetery, Auckland. He was the father of John Olds, Betty, Ron & Ken. My father John Olds died in 2005. My father John Robert Olds was married previous to marrying my mother Jean Alice Mulholland in which he had a son name John Olds who lives in the Tauranga area & has 3 sons of his own.
