Announcement of Collaboration Process on John Bays

Re: [[Bays-126|John Bays]] and other similar, born 1743 - 1750 in possibly Pittsylvania county, Virginia and died 1811 in that county.

This is not a question, but an announcement.  I am initiating a collaboration process in order to complete merging of duplicate profiles which have widely varying info and relationships.  We will collect and add info and sources to the profiles.  We will discuss the accuracy of the data and the reliability of the sources.  We will label the data and sources and maintain all of it in the bio section.  Nothing will be considered good/bad, right/wrong as long as it is supported by a source.  We will merge the duplicates and incorporate everything in the survivor.  We want to show our work so others may evaluate and understand how to select good data, best sources and sound reasoning to arrive at reliable conclusions.

Thank you for the votes.  Just want to give a 10 day progress report.  We have more than a handful of contributors who have made contact and 3 or 4 are putting in some time to improve profiles.  Our goal of finding conclusive evidence for the maiden name of the wife of John Bays, Jr. is still beyond our reach, but we are hopeful.  Two of John's children and a grandchild had family history books written about them and their descendants, so that gives us starting points of info on many family members.  The books also provide much needed source images and transcriptions that just can't be found on the internet with a search engine.  They really go beyond the scope of this project, but will feed further work.

My past projects were just a team of one, being myself, with very little input from other contributors.  This project is shaping up to be much more collaborative.  So my main job is to coordinate, encourage, cheer-lead and monitor.  My secondary job is to conduct and share my research, and sharing can be used as a follow-up related to the work of others, to stimulate further contributions.  Kind of like taking the long way around Robin Hood's barn, but I think the journey will benefit all of the participants.
Sorry, I forgot to give any more updates.  The main phase of this project wound down by the end of last year.  We were running out of new data and sources and places to look for more.  I reached my personal goal, which was to learn more about Vicey Bays, AKA Louisa Lovica Green Bays.  Since she kept getting attached to my Green's in Berkeley county, VA, I wanted to know why.  Her maiden name may well have been Green, but we have not found any conventional proof that it was, only verbal.  The conclusion from my Green's side is that it is highly unlikely that there would be a connection geographically (opposite sides of Virginia) and still absolutely no evidence of a connection genealogically.

Our work may help someone answer their questions and we can hope that additions will be made.

john Bays Jr. is my 5th GGF.  Thanks for breaking through this brick wall, It is a major breakthrough! I was resigned to the Bays line ending with his son John.  Now there are so many more possible branches of the tree to explore with the Bays.
