putting in wikitree id no page

Question

I have been doing a lot of editing on my family tree.  When I do a search on Mathieson-397 it just comes up with Mathieson-397 Genealogy and nothing else.  If I go through his grandfather Mathieson-85 then through his father Mathieson-93 I get to view Mathieson-397.  This is happening for a lot of my profiles.

Hi --

I am NO expert, but I just checked this (to be sure).  On your home "profile" page, under "FIND", there is a pull-down menu with "SEARCH" on it.  After you choose, "SEARCH," Item Number 3 (scroll down past the first screen).  THEN, on the right-most box, there is an empty box in which you can enter the WikiTree ID.

I'm taking a wild guess here. Are you using the search box at the top of the page and pasting the Wiki ID into the surname field?

That search box is for name searches and will not return results for an ID search. It is treating the Wiki ID as a surname and returning zero results on the genealogy page because it isn't a surname.

Using the "Find" menu, as James suggested above, will return potential matches for the ID you have entered. But, at the top of the list is a link to the Profile of the ID you entered.

I don't use the search for IDs.  At the top of every profile page you'll see the URL which ends in the WikiID, so you can just change it to the ID your're looking for and enter it and you'll be at the page you want.
