Are John Adam Meyers and George Adam Myers the same person?

+8 votes
Some user sites indicate that George Adam Myers (1740) of Berks County, Pennsylvania (Zion Moselum Church) married Anna Catharina (Merkel) Hill. Their son was George Adam Myers (1768). At the same time, sources say that "John" Adam Myers was the husband of Anna and the father of George. Are these two "Adam Myers" the same person?

I don't know what "documents" you refer to. There seems to be two Anne Hills born in Pennsylvania about the same time. One married John Meyer. The other married George Merkel. Whoever built these profiles seem to have combined the two women and have no proper sources.

The children listed on the profile are incorrectly attributed.

Can you provide the documents you are referring to?   the sources on the profile you have listed are interesting, but the only real source is Records of Rev. John Casper Stoever; baptismal and marriage, 1730-1779 ,” Schantz, Franklin Jacob Fogel, Harrisburg Publishing Co, Harrisburg, PA, 1896, 77 pages.

The rest of the information appears to be unsourced family trees.

As a caution, I do not know if this is the issue you have, but.....when looking at old records, Mennonite, in this will see that when a child is christened/baptized, there are people listed as "sp".....that means sponsor, it does not indicate spouse.

Here are the two documents: ("Adam" Meyers could be either "John Adam," George Adam" or both, depending on where the information came from.

("Adam" Myers (1768) is listed as "George Adam," and his father (husband of Anna Catharina (Merkel) Hill) is also shown as "George Adam Myers."

These are not documents. Documents are actual birth, marriage, death, census records. Rootsweb is a user submitted site and should NOT be used as a source unless it reproduces the actual document the information is taken from.
