_NOTOC_ no longer works?

I have used _NOTOC_previously on profiles and it worked beautifully. I tried to use it on a couple today and it does nothing except display _NOTOC_ above the biography header and the TOC displays anyway. I checked on the one profile I was certain I had used it on previously and it is still working on that profile. Is this intentional behavior and if so, why?

I replaced it with

 __NOTOC__

(double underlines)

which doesn't display, but also doesn't work.

Feel free to roll back my changes.
Sorry, it DOES work with the double underlines.
Pffft..no more WikiTree for me without at least half a cup of coffee! ☕
Don't be sorry. I never got it to work before - now I know why.
At risk of asking a daft question here, but what is NOTOC?
There are no daft questions! I can't guarantee there won't be daft answers though. ;-P

__NOTOC__ (make sure there are double underscores front and back) prevents wiki pages from creating a table of contents.
So does that mean a TOC shows automatically on a profile if you don’t specify otherwise? I am not seeing one on the profiles I have created and I have not added __NOTOC__
The TOC appears when you have more than three headers.
Deb and Eva, Thanks for the explanations.

Biography and Sources I always use, of course. Quite often I also use a heading for Children or one for Research notes. I have disciplined myself to use only one of them - if one spouse needs a research note, I may put the section with children on the other spouse. I never before realized that there were two underlines on each side in the working version of__NOTOC__ - such an invisible distinction.

you've already solved your problem, but...

in a saved profile that is showing a Table of Contents, there is a link just below the Contents header that says: "[hide]" -- click it and let WikiTree do the work for you

nevermind... that seems to only be a non-permanent javascript solution.
Right, hide doesn't remove it, it just hides it. __NOTOC__ prevents it from generating.
