Richard Harding b. between 1756-1761. Some sources have the date as 1756, his headstone reads 1761. He died in Brown Co., OH 15 Oct 1828. First marriage to Mary Watts; they had one son Richard Hardin b. 10 Jul 1780 in Philadelphia, PA, d. 5 Apr 1836 in Mercer Co., PA. They were married 22 Dec 1799 in Philadelphia, PA. After Mary's death he married Rachel Crepell 28 May 1790 in Fredericksburg, MD. Their children are Sophia 1791-1868; Anna b. 1792; Elizabeth 1795-1872; Ezra (from whom I am descended) 1799-1875; Harriet 1804-1843; Caroline d. 1837.
I know that he was sent as a British recruiter to the Colonies against his wishes during the Rev. War. When he reached the Colonies he joined the Continental Line and was in Capt. Stake's 10th PA company. He was wounded in the Battle of Germantown and unable to fight any more. He wished to still be part of the war effort and was recommended to George Washington, and became his dispatch carrier.
He resided in PA, MD and OH. He is buried in Chillicothe, Ross Co., OH.
