More info would help, such as John Bowman's birth location, state, county and or city. Do you know his wife's full name? Do you you his marriage year and location and his death year?

John Bowman, b. 15 Oct. 1812 in Hagerstown, Maryland, d. 28 July 1894  Ashland County, Ohio.  He married Elizabeth Vanzile 15 March 1849 (http://familysearch.org/pal:MM9.1.1/HZHX-LJC).  There are apparently 17 children, but I've only been able to find 16 of them, one of which is my great-grandfather.  How are you descended from John Bowman?

I"m mistaken about one of John's children being my great-grandfather.  My great-grandfather is also named Joseph but his father is a William Bowman.  Both John and William settled around Loudonville.  Not sure if they're related.

I haven't identified John's father yet; ;however, there is a public tree on ancestry.com that lists John's father as George Bowman, b. 15 Oct 1812 in Hagerstown, Maryland; d. 28 Jul 1894 in Ashland county, Ohio.  His mother is also listed as Anna Maria Miller, b. 1780 • Hagerstown, Maryland. and died in 1830.  Be aware, this information has not been proven but may be a place focus your research.  You can access my tree on ancestry if you need other info.  My ancestry username is sherribear661.
