Rule of thumb for adding Italian Roots templates to profiles

+11 votes
I have a general question about using the Italian Roots template to profiles. The italian_roots page says we can add it to people "with Italian roots" or who migrated from Italy. Do people typically stop adding it at a certain generation? For example, if I have a profile of someone who moved from Italy to the US, would I add Italian Roots template to her great-great-great grandson?

So far I have only used it with people born in Italy, but I wanted to get any input so as not to oversaturate the template.

Hi, Dominic --

Take a look at the Template Use link on the Italian Roots project page:

That template should only be used on profiles that will be managed by the project.

This project also has a sticker for migrating ancestors, which is what you could use for those born in Italy who moved elsewhere.

You can contact the leaders to see if they have plans on developing a sticker to be used by those with Italian heritage, though. :-)

The problem with "inherited" categories like Italian roots is that they "grow so fast"

e.g. for me I have german roots in 1500 with Hans Stockhaus that just in Wikitree he has 1072 descendant WikiTree profiles see WikiTree+ and I guess we are some 100 000  Swedish people related to him...

Better solution

  1. Is that we get Family trees displayed on a map
  2. Get some reporting tool to find all people with Italian roots etc...
