Was he Indian?

Hello,

Lucinda Smith is my 4x Grandmother, who married Francis Monks. Im trying to figure out if she was Indian. I have been told she was Cherokee; however, she was adoped into the Choctaw nation.  Any info would be appreciated.

According to Francis Monks' Dawes application, both he and Lucinda were white.  Francis' first wife was Choctaw and he was an intermarried white, but  not a Choctaw citizen. When the first wife died he married Lucinda.  They remained in the Choctaw Nation.
