William Crane 1763-1831 was he the one in the Revolutionary War, need template, Please

Changed spelling of name and dates I had William Crain born 1766-1841sc the dates are off and spelling of last name probably because of stones being destroyed or removed

Hey ! I gotta a cheapie tablet too ;-} RCA7 Walmart thirty bucks !  I used to have a laptop, big Acer Aspire. God killed it. Left it plugged in during t-storm and it smoked. Tablet is better ! Laptop, sit at desk in a chair, groan, but tablet curl up on sofa, yeah.

My 4x  great grandfather Is this William Crain, I have an original copy and abstract of his will and copies of the original Rev. war pension records. The Crain burial ground is in Greenville S.C. the field stones were pulled up and the graves were plowed over most of Williams family and spouses and some children  is buried there except for 3 of the sons and one daughter

He would have been only 10 years old in 1776 and just 17 at the end of the war. I see a William Crane from SC on the rolls but the date is 1779 and the man is a private so not likely to be a 13-year-old.

I believe the wife needs removed. that i have now, I see a Will saying Sarah but this note about his death says Polly Dill is this two different ladys or is her name Sarah Polly Dill?

He's probably in the Indian Wars and not necessarily the Revolution.  The area that is Greenville, South Carolina had some issues with Native Americans after the Revolution.  It got so bad that soldiers from North Carolina had to come and help out.

Polly Crain Dill was the grand daughter of William Crain and was married to a Stephen Dill. This was his second wife he was married to Judith Crain one of Williams daughters first and she died don't know when though. She is buried in Crain Cemetery.

Hey, you found William!  I question his involvement in the Revolution, however.  He seems to be awfully young.  But, I think you got the rest pretty well.  I've got a few of his kids rounded up already.  We just need another source or two.

I see on the 1830 census Greenville John 30/40 Samuel 20/30 William 60/70 any of this sound right but the son I already have added may not be this set

I'm noticing the same names from the Crains in Greenville and the Crains in Pendleton/Pickens.  I'm guessing they are related somehow so locations are very important for keeping these South Carolina Crains straight.  (Notice they sometimes claim they are of Canadian ancestry).   

Also, the birth dates are a little off.  From one census to the next, an age can be off over ten years.  They probably didn't record them well so even the people, themselves, forgot how old they were.  I'm pretty sure we got the right Shadrick although William may have had 2 wives.

William 1766 sons were Charles. Shadrack, Samuel, William Dennis, William Jr. daughters were Rebecca, Judith or Judy and Mahulda. Mary Poly was a granddaughter ccording to Williams will.

Judith  is Judith Camp or Campbell , not sure which, who married Charles Crain and is William Crain  mother. Found one torn up land record for her for LNAB but big ink blot bleeding off M , all that's clear is Judith Cam blot smesr

Judith seems to have 10 children, five small children put into guardianship, two older daughters Susan and Nancy and three older boys Charles,William, John. No idea who five kids in guardianship are and if any of them lived to grow up.

I added the parents that Saundra Stewart found William and Judith Camp Crain it already had a son John P Crain and a John Crain these two John's need merged but this is another cass where the manager is the same name Crain and their DNA information is listed on profile,  I don't see me being DNA connected and just don't know how to confront them, but I bet they got some knowledge on the Crain family.. My line has Crain, about 5 generations up the tree here in south Carolina also... Abbeville District the Long Cane creek post office area..

Yes would love to be a Trustee or manager. William's great granddaughter Alice Michell Crain say My William came from England in 1757 and he is mixed with the William of 1766 Could be more than one. I dont have access to immigration info.  The Daughters of the American Revolution have connected the Rev. War papers with the William Crain that died in 1842 in Greenville. If William came over that early he would have been extremely old when he died. Over 100 which is unlikely. But the one who died in Greenville SC in 1842 is my family line for sure.
