The Categorization Project on WikiTree is the place where discussion happens to help develop categories for use across the site. Because so many people use them, it is important that structure of categories is discussed before major implementation and the Categorization Project helps facilitate that, as well as set up new categories, fix erroneous categories, and apply them. If you would like to join us, post an "answer" below and we'll get you a badge.

Thanks!

Hi. I'm willing to help organize the file cabinets. Are we using Dewey Decimal system? open net architecture? How about a nice friendly tree structure?

I can make some maps for sale. We could get rich selling them and make enough money to get ice cream after. LOL

Hi all,

I would love to join. I have been filling in Category holes as I find them in my own profiles and very much enjoying it. I would love to help on a larger scale. :)

Like Danielle, I would like to join if only to act as a liaison for Ontario. I'm the Ontario Project's coordinator. With Greg Slade and a few other Ontarians, I've spent the last six months or so trying to bring some order to our province's categories. Please see my answer re the new categorization gadget here: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/624002/did-you-see-the-new-categorization-features Thanks!

Am still pretty new to Wikitree but think categorization is very important-I'm interested in Colonial NE and Sweden think categorization would be both fun and help link people together.  I'd like to join if I can.  Thanks!

I would like to join the Categorization Project. I have begun categorizing Quaker Monthly Meetings. I have a couple that I can't get to enter. One I did manually and got the message that it doesn't exist. Help please.

I am working on the Metis of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, the Dakotas/ northern tier US Alberta and British Columbia and would love to be adding a category to my people.  I see there are tags available for these categories so I should be using them.

Hi!  I'm interested in categorizing (all) musicians, although what I personally specialize in and most people are interested in from a historical aspect is military music.  (Today) we think of music as a hobby or of ne'er-do-well rock-stars... but in camp, they acted as the clock to tell everyone when it was time to wake up, eat, move out, get back to camp, go to sleep... on the battle-field they would call out maneuvers and raise morale or incite fear.  On the road they would keep time and give soldiers tunes to sing along to.  In the officer's service, they would serve as chamber musicians at fancy dinners, translators, messengers, and even spies!

And, there are many studies that show musical proficiency translates to other areas in math and science and linguistics.  So to find out your ancestor was a musician may not simply be an interesting "cool" fact, but could give you some interesting "ah ha" moments about your genes.

Fun fact: I've been playing both fife AND snare drum (unusual to play both, even in the genre) for over 32 years.  I didn't find out until last year that my 5th great grandfather was both listed as a fifer AND drummer during the American Revolution from the Lexington Alarm to the Valley Forge encampment - and several of his cousins/nephews/kids were also listed as fifers or drummers in the War of 1812 or Rev War as well.
