Hi Bridgett (and anonymous) I found that the profiles were unsourced so it's difficult to have confidence in them. I had a look at what I could find,

There is a register from the period for Ashby St Ledgers  but  that doesn't start until  1554 , the one for Flore where his son has supposed to have moved to doesn't start until  a century later.. Finding evidence for  John's  parent will be difficult.(as will be providing evidence that two people with a similar fairly common name in different parishes are the same person)

I found the burial of  a John Holliwell in September 1601 at Ashby so I've added that source.

I don't think his baptism is there but couldn't be certain (1560 is at the top left of the page and as its on the corner it is only semi legible)

He was not married there in 1582. The clerk writes  '1582 in this year of Our Lord non married.'

William Halliwell , son of John was baptised in AshbySt Ledgers on 27th January  1592 ( This was given as date of birth on the profile, the date  would be 1592/3 so I changed the date to 'new style' 1593  in the data field) and added the source for his baptism to his profile and added AKA Halliwell)

There is then a problem with dates. The marriage of  an William Hollowell  to an Elizabeth Coppinforth, took place in Hardingstone, Northamptonshire  on 3rd April 1643 which is too late for her to be the mother of a Thomas born in 1625.

(obviously you could search for an earlier marriage with the same names but...)

Images of Northamptonshire registers are on Ancestry.co.uk, in this period the index is often not much use,(combination of difficult to read handwriting and spelling variations as above) you have to search the pages yourself, the marriage above is an exception, the clerk had beautiful clear handwriting.

Thanks Helen,

The reason I ask is because one of our best genealogist says we have always been Hollowell. I will find out how he knows that so we can get the records straight.

Also, which is a stickler for Hollowells is the name being spelled and pronounced wrong....so I really need to find out. Your source had the Halliwell and another source had another variation within a generation and I thought, well that can't be right.

But as far as I know we are part of that Holy +  Well that, for us, morphed into Hollowell hence the town Hollowell.

At this point I have no idea. And it could have been that way, but the frequent name changes give me pause. Also, based on VA immigrant records....Thomas' last name was written Hollowell, so I assume his father William was a Hollowell too, then his father is Northamptonshire, England, Extracted Church of England Parish Records

Name John Hollowell Susanna Healy
Vital Northamptonshire, England date

I cannot see the records so if anyone has these records I would love to see them.
If it's really Coppinforth and not Coppingforth, that should be corrected.
