A new thread has been started at https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/674308/would-you-like-to-participate-in-the-1776-project

The 1776 Project seeks to recognize those who participated in the American Revolutionary War.

The 1776 Project honors those who were involved in the early history of the United States of America, circa 1773 through 1789, by adding and improving their profiles on WikiTree. This time period covers the Boston Tea Party, through the War for Independence, to the ratification of the United States Constitution by our Founding Fathers.

Loyalists welcome :)

Just send us your request to join and for the 1776 Project Badge by adding your answer below. Please include what you are working on or interested in so I can include it when I award your badge  Thanks!!

I am excited to see all of our new members!!
I apologize that I didn’t get a couple of your requests and so you had to wait days for your badge!!! If anyone makes a request and doesn’t hear back from me within 24 hours, please leave a message on my page. I don’t want anyone waiting!! Thanks!!

Paula
I would like to be a 1776 volunteer. I have several proven patriots.
I have more than one branch with ancestors participating in the Revolution but my 3rd Great Grandfather, Abraham Hankins b1763 and d1840 m Sarah Skaggs is the only one I have on this site atm. He is Hankins-1058. I'm a co-administrator of the FTDNA Hankins Project. Our goal is to use our DNA and paper trails to tie Project members which hopefully will also tie the several Hankins branchs together and back to the UK during and before Colonial America. I would like to be part of your Project as I do a considerable amount of researching for my genealogy (as time and various branches allow). I am retired.

Family has been here since the 1600's. I grew up in Washington, DC and have been around the history of the US most of my life

I have just added a Resource Page for the 1776 project and also a section for anyone to list their name if they would like to be a project researcher who helps other members!

Please add any of your Revolutionary War resources and for those if you who have offered research help, please add you name! Thanks!!

Here is the link to the new page:

Can you also add me please, I have a handful of relatives that fought in the revolutionary war.
I apologize to those of you who have had to wait for a badge. I’ve been out sick. Please let me know if I have missed you. Thanks for your patience!
i have a couple of relatives that fought in the Revolutionary War.  How do I add them to your lists?
I am very confused. I would like to join this group. I have several ancestors that were involved with the Revolution. Also, I am a member of the Society for Colonial Wars in Maine. Thank you for your assistance. Dave Selleck
I have added you to the project. Welcome!
Yes, thank you.
Please add me to the project and I would like a badge. I had been active officer in the DAR for almost 20 years and would like to help.
I've found a few ancestors involved in the Revolutionary War and I am interested in joining this project.
Hi Paula, I just joined the Military and War Project, but I might as well add the 1776 project as well and any of the War projects fought with American involvement, for that matter. My current project is trying to tag all the Patriots in my family and make sure that they have all the military service information available that I can find on them. This will be a daunting task since I have Patriots in nearly every branch in my family for nearly every war Americans faught in. I have always found military and wars facinating. Probably being raised by a Capt. Army Ranger Step dad who served in Vietnam/Narcotics Agent for the state of Mississippi and both Grandfather's serving in the Army during WWII and Korean War has something to do with that. There is just something about people fighting for what they felt was right or being forced to fight in a war whether they believed in it or not. Anyway, this gives me a break from researching my brick walls and pulling my hair out when I find nothing. Lol
I thought I had joined, but still no badge. I do think some of my family have the bell.

I awarded you the badge. Welcome to the 1776 Project!
I would like to be added to the project. I have two direct grandfathers that fought in the Revolution, father and son. Captain Clement Smith and his son Colonel Richard Smith, both of Maryland.

Craig Smith

I would like to be a part of your 1776 Project. I have been researching a lot in the last few months & will have a good deal of information to bring to the table. To know about your roots is very interesting. I feel like I am solving a mystery. :)

Peggy, can you sign in and then leave a message so I can find your profile to add the badge? Thanks!
What further is expected of a member of Project 1776??
Hello - I'd like to join the 1776 project.  I am particularly proud of my Revolutionary ancestor, Augustus Levesque/Levake who was Quebecois and fought in the Continental Army! He was excommunicated from the Catholic church in Quebec and labeled a traitor to his country (Canada). I would love to see a sub-category of those Canadians recruited by Hazen and find out what they did with their lives after the war, but could not go home.
I will see what Keith says about setting up the category. If you want to make it a subproject let me know and I will link it to the project for you.
I would like to join the project. I have nine ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War and I have been researching and finding documents to prove that fact. I also help prospective members of my NSDAR chapter to find and document their Revolutionary War patriots.

Thank you.
I would love to join the project. I have a number of revolutionary war ancestors and have been enjoying adding them to categories and would love to learn more about the American Revolution.
Thanks for inviting me to the 1776 Project :) I see my signiture says Peggy Longhurst? I am Peggy Sierra as well. LOL!
I would like to be added to this project. I am a descendant of Hezekiah Alexander, signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence.
I, too, would like to join the 1776 Project and have had difficulty finding the badge. Thanks.

I have a few ancestors that are believed to have participated in the Rev. War; I'd like to study possible connections (& join the project).

I would like to join as I have many ancestors who participated in the Revolutionary War, and am currently compiling documents to join D.A.R. I will be adding the 1776 tag and have begun adding in ancestors that are not already in WikiTree, as well as going back through those already here that need badges.
I'd like to join as I have multiple ancestors who served during the Revolutionary War.
I would like to participate in this great project as I have ancestors who served our country in this war.
I too would like to join the 1776 group. I'll be working on the Irish people that served in the Revolution as part of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Irish_Military_Diaspora
I have several ancestors who fought in the American Revolution. I am working on my application for the DAR. I would love to join the project. Thank you!
I would like to join the group.  I have family from Pequannock/Wayne NJ that were in the war.  The only relative I have found to date is Capt./Col  Martin D. Ryerson. born 1695 and died 1790.  There are so many Ryersons it is very hard to keep them all straight.

Unfortunately Martin was a loyalist : (
I would like to join the 1776 Project. My 5GGF Lt. Germain Dionne, served in the American Revolution from 1776-1783 and is an original member of the NY State Society of the Cincinnati.
I am working on Rev. Soldiers in my extended family.I would like to join your group.
With my relatively recent discoveries of so many gateway ancestors, I've learned, too, the depth of my connections during the late 18th century... with ancestors on both sides of the issue. I would be most appreciative to be included.

I added this ancestor to 1776 project. He’s pretty interesting fellow and the stories that goes with him. I still have questions still but I love to join your project.

I'd love to be included! Most of my interest is in the Revolution in Pennsylvania & Massachusetts, and I've got ancestors who took part at Lexington, Bunker Hill, the Jersey campaign, and several who were members of various Pennsylvania militias that played a role.
Please consider my request to join your group as I have a special interest in the Age of the Enlightenment as well as ancestors who served during the Revolutionary War.
I'd like to participate.  My dad had one ancestor who served and my mother had several.

I'd like to participate.  My dad had one ancestor who fought in the war, and my mother had several as well.  All on the side of independence, of course. smiley

I have several Revolutionary War ancestors, and am working on my DAR application. I would love to join and help.
I got a message in email that I needed to post another message, so I am.  My Revolutionary War ancestors were mostly from New York, though I had at least one from New Jersey.
I would love to join the project. My 4th Gr-Grandfather Peter Blue was listed as a drummer boy for the 1st Regiment, W. NJ Troops under Capt. Scott from Oct. 28, 1775 to January 15, 1776. His older half-brother served in the PA Volunteers as he had already crossed the Delaware before signing up.
I would like to join. I am a member of SAR and have 2 ancestors recognized as soldiers. Is this where I apply?
Hello,

I am very interested in joining the 1776 Project. My 7th Great-grandfather, Nathaniel Chapin (Chapin-955), was an Ensign in the Connecticut State Levies for the Patriots. He served in Wadsworth's Brigade in Col. Comfort Sage's Regiment in various locations throughout New York in 1776. He was present for Washington's retreat from Long Island and was at the Battle of White Plains. This is my favorite era of American History and I would be honored to join the project.

Best,

Joel
I am also interested.  My ancestor is John Oldaker, a Virginia patriot.
Thank you for your interest. Someone from the 1776 Project will contact you.

Is this closed to new members? i have many ancestors who fought in the revolution from Massachuttes. Reeds and Redman's and Spencers.
Yes - I would like to join as well
I would like to join the 1776 Project. I and my mother are members of the DAR. Our ancestors are David Campbell and Benjamin Whorton. Many more Patriots are in my tree.

I would like to join this project.  I have an interest in the neutrality of Nantucket during the Revolutionary Wars years.    William Rotch-1 wrote something on that subject:  http://archive.org/stream/memorandumwritte00rotch#page/n5/mode/2up

Thank you.  Dave Jenkins

Hi,

I was just accepted into the project, for which I thank you.  I hit a snag trying to get the one profile (Carpenter-13027) I have accepted into the "1776 Project" - i.e. have his name listed among those who are already listed in the Project as having served in the Revolutionary War.  Trying to confirm I did it correctly, the category comes up as red on his profile page w/ the explanation that is restricted to those in some Supervisory capacity.  Huh?????  Any way to correct this.  Thanks.  Dave

I had success retrying "Category: 1776 Project" for Ezra.  Computer gremlins or something.  My regrets.  D. Jenkins

I would like to join the project. I'm currently working on my 6th G-G, and his son, who served in Pennsylvania, Lt. Richison's Associated Company. Also my 5th G-G who also served in Pennsylvania, Capt. Sweany's 6th Company of the 5th Battalion and the Washington County Militia. I have numerous ancestors who served, but these are more recently discovered from working my maternal lines. I'd enjoy sourcing for other's profiles.

I am not so much interested in joining the project as I am seeing my Ancestors who were involved awarded a badge. If I need to join to accomplish that I will. Please advise. Thanks

I have two revolutionary soldiers who I know of.  Anthony Yerkes (Yerkes-125) was in the militia in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.  Ebenezer Coe (Coe-1148) was a Ranger in Western Pennsylvania; he moved there from Morristown, New Jersey in 1776.

I have pension and service information for Ebenezer.  I would like to know how to format that for the Sources section of his profile.

I have only a genealogy listing and a DAR listing for Anthony.  I would welcome help in finding his military history and documenting it.

Hi Pat,

Post your comment as a question on g2g under genealogy help. That way you will get help in finding the information. This post just signs up new members. Thanks!

I would like to join the 1776 project. I have come across several relatives that could have fought in the war and I am still investigating them:

  1. John Ellis Warren-b 1735
  2. John Ellis Warren II-uncle
  3. William Harrell
  4. John Hardee
  5. Cullen Conerly-b 1745 I was given sources showing his service but am not sure what documents I need to show I am a descendent.

Are you trying to enter the DAR? or do you just need help with sources on your profiles

Hi - I would like to join the 1776 project. I have a particular interest my colonial Stites ancestors who lived in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island before and during the war. More specifically, I am researching Stites family who were members of the Scotch Plains Baptist Church including the children of William Stites (1676-1727) who lived in and around Elizabeth Town and his grandchildren. Their history intersects with the founding of Brown University and the First Baptist Church of New York City, among other things, so there are a number of archival and historical source materials to draw from. For example, I have seen published extracts from letters that Rev. James Manning (founding president of Brown U.) wrote to his future wife, Margaret Stites, when he was a student at Princeton in the 1750s.
