Do you know of any other free web sites that I could use for research?

I have been using familysearch.com, and I have used findagrave.com.  Also, I found the Veteran Administration Site to be useful.

I am not sure if it is as active as it used to be, but the US GenWeb project (drill down for states and counties):

http://www.usgenweb.org/

The Local History Network (again, drill down for states):

http://www.alhn.org/

Always check the state archives of the state where your ancestor was located. Missouri, for instance, is digitizing and posting death certificates, among other documents. The Illinois Archives has several databases related to military service, as well as vital statistics.

Check the local/county library websites in the localities of your ancestors. Greene County, Missouri (Springfield) and the Central Rappahannock Heritage Center (Spotsylvania, Caroline, Fredricksburg, Virginia), for examples, have extensive databases online.

And I've found plenty just by googling and binging names.

For others with your surname, you could try http://genforum.genealogy.com/brundage/

For a particular state and county, try  http://genforum.genealogy.com/il/cook/ or http://genforum.genealogy.com/pa/erie  or whatever state and county is of interest to your research.

Hi George,

Please feel free to use Kitty's Library.  Bookmark it or ask to join the trusted list so that it appears on your Free-space Watchlist.

Could a link to this (as well as other helpful links) be inserted somewhere into the "Welcome to WikiTree" info?  It would be helpful to so many new to this wonder tree but especially to the many who are new at genealogy.

Also http://www.genealogytrails.com/.  Some states/counties have a lot more info than others.  Some have a lot of census transcriptions, obituaries, etc., that can be really useful.
