The Afrikaners are a South African ethnic group who are descended from 17th century Dutch, German, and French settlers to South Africa. The Afrikaners slowly developed their own language and culture when they came into contact with Africans and Asians. The word “Afrikaners” means “Africans” in Dutch. About three million people out of South Africa’s total population of 42 million identify themselves as Afrikaners. The Afrikaners have impacted South African history tremendously, and their culture has spread across the world.

Do you mean pioneers or the surname "Pienaar"  I found information on the prior and nothing on the latter.

********************************* The FIRST PIENAARS ever, anywhere were ; PIETER and younger brother JACQUES, both born in South Africa of French parents. Their father JACQUES PINARD age 22, fled France to escape religious persecution with Esther Foucher age 21. This couple wed on the 10th of December 1687 in Delft, Netherlands at St Aechten French Church far from home and family. They arrived in the Cape in 1688 after an arduous 4 months at sea and had to do the final leg from Saldanha to Table Bay in a another ship as theirs was badly battered by storms. Their firstborn Pieter was registered as PIENAAR, which is spelt in Dutch as the french PINHARD is prounounced. Many new settlers changed their names to a Dutchtype equivalent to assimilate into the culture of their country of adoption. So began the amazing saga of proudly South African PIENAARS, who have played such a leading role ......who can forget the Nelson Mandela/Francois Pienaar combination in 1995.
